XJS mirror rebuild

Post by ard126k » Sat Jul 20, 2019 5:13 pm

Has anyone ever managed to dismantle, repair and rebuild an XJS electric mirror?
My symptoms -motor runs but glass doesn't move!
Alex.

XJS mirror rebuild

Its probably the same as the "normal Scimitar" mirror - take the glass out to get to the fixing screws which hold everything together. if you break the glass chances are its easier to get a Jag glass than it is the glass out of the scimitar mirror.

Take a deep breath and lever one edge of the glass - out it pops. It sits on 3 balls and socket joints that come apart. Then as you say just screws to undo.
So now I have the 2 motors which both run but one doesn't move its operating arm. I think there must be a gearbox in the case but I can't see how to get into it.

I would have thought that if you remove the unit by taking the two screws out you can see all of the mechanism - super glue may fix the motor not connecting with the mirror - I have had a "Scimitar " mirror apart but cannot remember how it was all put together - I'm getting too old to remember such things

About half way down this page is a post I did to show how the XJS mirror fits together https://scimitarweb.co.uk/sgwrs/viewtop ... 4&p=426759
