There is no point trying to teach a pig to sing. It doesn't work and it annoys the pig.

Cheers...i reasoned that with a loom fire/short, by the time i stopped opened the bonnet and used a manual cut off it may be too late..With this its just flick a switch on the dash , couple of seconds at most

With the contacts held closed, it isn't such an issue, the thing that kills solenoids is switching high currents. I think it overkill though, you would be better improving the fusing arrangements in my opinion. That will also keep the important feeds like the clock and radio memories.

You will still have some power around when the switch is off otherwise you will not be able to energise the relay - all be it wired just to the battery

Think how much easier it would be if the loom was saved by the simple addition of a few fuses.rebel alliance wrote: ↑Sun Mar 03, 2019 5:48 pmThink how long it would take if you were in the outside lane of a motorway to get on the hard shoulder get out open bonnet and use a normal battery cut off....car be full of lucas smoke by then![]()

Think the negative is easier ,stick the relay out the way ..i would not think it made any difference as long as the main battery power was cut ?
