Fitting an Italvolanti steering wheel to a Reliant

Post by Loxford » Fri Apr 20, 2018 12:47 am

I have one of those M/Bridge wheels on my GTC.
I had a spare when I sold my M/Bridge, it's a solid, chunky feeling steering wheel, much nicer than the thin Reliant original. I fitted it myself, it was not a difficult task once I sourced the adapter.
Problem is, it was about 3 years ago and I cannot remember where I bought it.
If I can find out I'll post back here.
Regards
G

I don't remember buying from this company, so this is not a recommendation, however, they are claiming this boss will fit a Scimitar therefore they presumably at least know the spline fit to the column. You'll need to discuss the Italvolante.
If you read the details they do suggest they also make them to order.

Do check about the indicator cancellation. That might need a bit of customisation.

Fitting an Italvolanti steering wheel to a Reliant

Hi Loxford
I’ve contacted a supplier (mentioned in an earlier post) called Scarborough racing on Wednesday this week. The guy has been on a break for the past two weeks. He does recognise the Scimitar boss with a 70m P.C.D. that I need but to his surprise have non left in stock. He’s ordering 10 more and possibly have them to post in two weeks time. He in turn uses two suppliers. He quoted the reference numbers: KK1014 and SPR 014. I will need to confirm before ordering that they are a deep dish similar to my Mountney boss. As mentioned previously by gtcse8 and just now by loxford they need to clear the indicator stalks.

That link is to the 101 P.C.D. My specific Intalvolanti has a 70mm P.C.D. I do own a few 101 P.C.D. bosses with various wheels attached. Nonetheless thanks for the information. If you do find your original boss supplier please post it.
All the best

The stalks weren't a problem, I seem to remember the indicator cancellation needed some adaptation.
The other issue is the wheel is nearer the overdrive switch, I often catch it with my knuckles.

My boss has arrived from Scarborough Racing £38 inc postage. No fitting screws and only one roll pin (2 holes in boss). Not really a big issue. 6 x M5 countersunk headed screws approximately 25mm long - fitted. However do I need to find another roll pin for indicator cancellation? Only asking as I have a chance of getting the wheel fitted tomorrow before we go to the Tatton Park show at the weekend.

Ron One pin will be enough as long as it sits into the cancelling boss on the column.

On Micks RIL2000 I had to machine the boss down a bit as it rubbed the plastic cowling away and the pins were not present.

They need to be quite long to engage in the centre plastic cancellation boss.

Just for a bit of info for others, the Chunky SS1/SSt/Sabre wheel is a direct fitting on GTE/C column.
Just need to alter the rearward pins to lock into the plastic centre cancelling boss.
The SS type wheel is smaller and chunkier than the GTE/C and not as dished.

The Scarborough boss was supplied with two roll pins. One slipped inside the other. Wheel now fitted.

It's been a long haul, Ron, but glad you got there in the end. It sits well with your interior. Some folks in the MB field when they've had their interiors re-trimmed have had those coloured flashes re-trimmed or re-coloured to match. Something to consider if you feel the burgundy and grey don't quite sit with the black, but all these things are personal taste (and cash!)

Good point Chris.
Grey is ok as the leather seats have a stripe of grey. However, burgundy food for thought.
