Ignition circuit

Just when you thought I'd gone away!! Went to the Autoelectrician in Innsworth. He had a recon alternator on the shelf for " not a lot more " ( his words ) so I bought it. Fitted it this morning .... still no ignition light!! Can't check voltages because my DVM has stopped working. Unlike yesterday ...

Just mend yours, Innsworth is not so far from you.
This is the man I guess?

I'm out that way tomorrow anyway, I'll drop it off and see what they can do.

Ignition circuit

That's two votes for dead diodes then. I had just about convinced myself the alternator was at fault, but then got sidetracked by my non functioning flying lead. What alternator do I need then? Don't even think about suggesting changing diode packs, tried that once a few years ago ( when I had the 6...

Ignition circuit

I’m slightly confused by the “split” on the brown/yellow wire? I thought it was a single wire from loom into the small spade? Sorry Phil, that's me not being clear. As you say it was a short single wire from the loom to the spade, but I split it and crimped a spade connector in to make it easier to...

Ignition circuit

Hi All Thanks for the replies Phil and Andy. If I can't get to the bottom of this myself might have to take up your offer Andy. Just having another look. The bit that has me totally confused: Ignition off, brown / yellow wire from loom to the small spade connector at the back of the alternator split...

Ignition circuit

Electrical numpty here, finally found a bit of time to look at the ignition on my 1400. Symptoms: No ignition light. Split the small wire from the loom to the alternator and checked: Ignition off: 12V on Alternator side, 0V on loom side. Ignition light off, that's OK because with ignition off there ...

Stuck bonnet and ignition

You're a star Trevor.

A bit of forceful pushing down from a largish son and the catch popped open.

Stuck bonnet and ignition

Before you look at anything else 're the bonnet, just try getting a friend to press down on the bonnet (both sides) whilst pulling the release. It often helps a sticking catch! Thanks, Sounds a simple thing, so worth a try before anything more complicated. My son is calling this evening, he's a big...

Stuck bonnet and ignition

Hi all What's the best way to release a stuck bonnet? I've just read the recent thread re adjusting the cable, but that involves opening the bonnet and I can't. I have tried pulling the release lever as hard as I dare, don't want to break anything and make a bigger mess. The passenger side catch has...

Petrol hose ( again )

A couple of weeks ago I noticed some cracks appearing in the supply hose to the fuel pump, replaced about five years ago with what I thought was good quality hose ( labelled R9, see photo ) I bought some Cohline from AJL and finally got around to replacing it today. A couple of thoughts, most of the...

Electrical problem

After several months of trouble free driving my 1400 has developed an electrical fault, which I hate as car electrics are not my strong suit! All working as normal yesterday, however today I have no ignition light or " brake test light " when ignition switched on. Checked brake fluid level, reservoi...

New soft top.

My soft top has reached the end of its usable life ( the canvas is OK still but most of the stitching is rotted and most seams are coming apart ) A local boat hood company have had a look at it for me and say it is beyond economic repair. Time to save for a new one then ( hard top on at the moment, ...

SS1 'Mr Green' back from the dead.

Well done! Interesting to see that you got it out, complete with gearbox, without removing the nose panelling (only the bonnet, of course). I've always had the impression that removing the nose was virtually essential? Depends on the hoist I think. The hoist I used ( a few years ago now ) would not...
