GTC 404 MOT electric advice needed

Cheers Jim and Mark. Will try tomorrow. I’ve just bought (Saturday) the wrong Lucas 14 watt wiper from HBowers advertised on eBay. Should have been 16 watt I guess - but in my excitement of finding a Lucas unit I ignored checking properly. However, they are only just down the road so I can take it b...

Make sure the wiper motor is on then connect the negative wire to the body of the wiper motor . It also has an earth wire in the multi plug and should have a permanently live feed wire as well (used for parking the blades) The body and motor becomes and still does get extremely hot with ignition tu...

In a departure from my usual purchases, I've bought this:-
3 MX5’S + 3 GTC’S and one of these is next on my list. Well done Steve. Let me know when you have polished, fettled, fiddled and finished with it.

Found the solution to one problem today. The inner 5-3/4” lights. The two wires behind the engine bay fuse box were broken from their connector. For some unrelated reason the passenger side 7” main beam is now working. So lights are sorted when I put it all back together. While everything is apart I...

Have you cleaned fuses and earths and checked for power yet? Unlikely to be the relays that Steve replaced recently IMO. I’ve cleaned all the fuses in the car and the 4 in the engine bay and found one to be iffy (engine bay 25 amp) so replaced. Cleaned earths no. Not sure where to start cleaning th...

Pictures from around the wiper motor. The small bullet connector seems to be quite a flimsy affair. Easily popped out and pushed back in. Two of these connections are near to the wiper motor. Also there appears to be a few earth connections in the vicinity. 1B10FE2D-D040-45E7-8CEA-3367B53565F0.jpeg ...

One point to mention is that when the new bonnet was fitted and painted the bracket and light in the bonnet (which was never connected) was not installed at all and the two wires near the bulkhead have been left hanging loose. I can’t remember them being left like that previously. This may not be re...

Taking into account that to date I have not removed or checked my “Ripca” 40 amp relays. The “Ripca” website states that the reference 2152 is a 4 pin mini relay normally open. I’m now looking at buying either possibly necessary replacements or simply some spares. The spare relay I have already (not...

Just realised the relay in my hand is a cube with the male prong connections. So these prongs push into a female part. Making the two piggy back cubes in my glove box. Tell me if I’m wrong.

I’ve carried out a basic check of the 4 fuses in the engine bay with a continuity tester (fuses taken out). One seemed a bit hit and miss so that was replaced. When I took the the glovebox out there are 3 relays as per picture and 3 inline fuses (possibly associated with radio/cd). What I mean with ...

Today
Inner 5 3/4 inch mains not working. Outer 7 inch lights side light bulb fine. Outer 7 inch lights working. Flick to full beam via steering multi switch - only one 7 inch light lit. Found 3 relays behind glove box. Looks like they are piggy backed. See photo.

GTC 394 Power steering advice

Hi Jim I was in and out of the house when the rack was being refitted. Also short time on the phone to Mark Wilson. I can remember the guy saying something about the disc on the column. I think he mentioned one bolt/set pin had a nut and the other one just a thread without a nut so said it must just...

GTC 394 Power steering advice

Today on my drive my mechanic. Refitted the (Mark Wilson) reconditioned power steering rack. Following a quick desperate call to Mark - Mark advised us that two of the pipes were fitted the wrong way around. So steering rack off and thankfully corrected. I’ve not tried or driven the car as all the t...
