Snow socks

I've got some snow socks in my T4 VW camper as an emergency backup in case of slippery fields. Not used them yet, but did find the v heavy camper well suited to snow whilst our normal car (Seat Altea) on wider tyres and weighing far less refused to move.

video of one here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hFMZTEuU_j0

Very neat, all in one unit - I wonder whether it would limit it not having the separate ECU etc.

Correct Valve Clearances SE6A

steve bryant, what's the difference between an Essex and a GT Essex? And how do you go about setting clearances with the engine running?

Upper wishbone bushes

Just done mine, with poly bushes from GW along with new upper mounts (the bits the wishbones mount to) and ball joints. Pretty stiff to move, even before attaching suspension uprights, definitely no movement in any direction other than intended. How worn were your upper mounts?

Oil pressure/relief valve

Good point about the filter gtcse8, - have you got a Ford branded filter on it justfur, ? The belief seems to be that they address low pressure at idle.

pinion oil seal leak

I've done two on my SE6A (replaced axle) and both had some wear but sealed fine after replacement.

There is the elusive breather hole on my type, which I read can lead to an over-pressurising of the axle and oil being pushed out if its blocked. Not sure if it's the same on your axle?

Overheating? Running out of fuel? Calibrate your gauge!

Having found that my temp gauge was showing overheating, rather than my engine actually overheating, and having suffered a rather embarrassing 'running out of fuel' breakdown, I can firmly recommend calibrating your gauges. This is my fuel gauge reading at 4.8v, when the needle should have been betw...
