Gurston Down 21/22 April 2018

More than that Jim, look at the Gurston Down website http://www.gurstondown.org/event-calendar/ and under 'competitor information' then 'entry lists & final instructions' you will find the full lists, about 130 entries on Saturday and bikes as well on Sunday. Should be a busy day! Richard

Scimitar SE5a starting issues

If your car has the auto choke then doing what I say here might not be the best plan. My 5a has had the manual choke conversion but I rarely use that to start the car, only when its really cold, in fact I rather it didn't fire too soon after I begin cranking too allow the engine oil pressure to come...

Argh !!! oil pressure pipe how i hate you

I am about to replace the oil pressure gauge and copper pressure line on my 5a with a new braided line and a second hand gauge. Currently I have oil leaking at the engine joint and appearing on the dashboard below the gauge face, its a job I have put off for ages due to the lack of access. Looking a...

Ferrari GTC4Lusso v Reliant Scimitar

If anyone out there in Scimmyland is looking for a suitable successor to your Reliant Breadvan you might like this article in last Sunday's Times magazine by Jeremy Clarkson. He reviews the Ferrari GTC4Lusso and the whole text is available on line here https://www.thetimes.co.uk/magazine/the-sunday-...

Goodwood 23 September 2017

Yes well spotted Geoff. We realised during the Curborough test day that the intercooler wasn't doing what it was supposed to do, so we ran a couple of laps without the nose and bonnet and it was noticeably more powerful. It was the same on the rolling road, no bodywork and a massive fan blowing on t...

Re: My 1974 Scimitar GTE SE5A

The un-assisted steering of my car is one of its joys, I admit at car park speeds it is heavy (and I have a 14" steering wheel fitted making it worse) but out on the open road the precision allows you to place the car exactly using very little effort, much nicer than anything I have ever driven with...

Re: My 1974 Scimitar GTE SE5A

Hello Paul, welcome to Scimitar ownership. I love my SE5a that I have owned for eighteen years and travelled thousands of miles in, the longest trips being to Spa and Le Mans, in that time it has never broken down. It is not a daily driver and lives in a dry garage. From your list of jobs I will com...

It cannot be carb icing from a cold start, that only happens after a run.

Re: 1973 SE5a battery question

In my 73 SE5a I have one of these https://www.gsfcarparts.com/971aa0430 never have any problem and in the winter the car can sit unused for a month or more and still start easily. It fits in the tray height and width wise but is slightly shorter so I had room to fit my Kenlow fan controller in the s...

Re: Mot failure

Are you using the automatic choke or has it been converted to manual? Is the emission test it is failing on the idle revs test or at 3000 rpm? I also do not know this particular carb, so this might not apply, but all the various types of Weber have much in common and winding the idle mixture screw w...

Blimey Phil that was a tank slapper. Thought you looked a bit sweaty afterwards, I can see why now.
