Snow and tyres

I've been out in my 5-series diesel last night and this morning
Having fitted winter tyres in December when we had a tiny bit of snow, it's the first time I've used them properly and I'm very impressed how much grip there is on the 3-4" of fresh snow we have at the moment

Rear wiper wheel box

Hi,
If it's the usual arrangement of a wiper arm on a tapered serrated spindle, and the arm is slipping on the spindle, try putting a washer under the nut to force the arm on further

Gearbox....at my wits end

The exploded diagram of a Type 5 here https://www.bearingkits.co.uk/FORD-CAPR ... 1T/588.htm suggests B, and B would be symmetrical with where the circlip goes at the front of the shaft

Battery chargers

I have 2 CTEK chargers but don't leave them on permanently. Instead I disconnect the batteries and put them on charge the night before I need to use the car. It usually takes 2-3 hours for the chargers to say the batteries are ready to go. My Scimitar had sat since July 2017 and I went for a drive l...

GavinR's Se5a Project

MOT time today After the Leukaemia, I only managed to get out on the Ross Traders last July - an enjoyable day with Carrie and I finishing 8th. Since then the Scimitar has been parked up in Carrie's garage, but with the MOT due to expire next week I thought I had better dig the Scimitar out and take...

Bradbury Four Post Lift

I was using mine today, so measured the height, and it's very similar to Geraint's
It needs 12' to get the bed high enough to engage the wheel free beams into the top most slot
At this height I can stand upright underneath the middle of a car, but have to duck under the ramps - I'm just under 6'

Bradbury Four Post Lift

I also have a Bradbury 4 post with wheel free, from 1978. It came from a Ford dealership so was in regular use and regularly serviced. It was fun working out where all the pulleys and cables went - they had dismantled it before I got there! Bought for £1,000 with the original 3 phase motor, I bought...

Good luck!

I looked at doing it but my 2 possible navigators were busy so I arranged something else for the New Year
Since then, I've been asked twice to navigate on it :(

Hi, Very difficult to remove as it's aluminium screwed into aluminium These will fit, and you can also get straight ones, standard thread is 3/8" NPT on all old Ford manifolds (Pinto and Crossflow as well as V6) http://www.burtonpower.com/water-union-3-8-npt-90-deg-elbow-fp478.html http://www.burton...

Hi, The preload on the differential case bearings is achieved by fitting shims under the bearings to give the required preload (I think the IRS units achieve preload by attaching the output shafts to the diff casing so don't need these shims) Once you have the correct preload, you can then swap shim...
