Joe's 1972 GTE - MOT'd

Joe, last summer I collected all the parts to complete a mazda rx8 5speed conversion including the adaptor plate. The ratios are identical to the Ford type 9 five speed. You can have cable or hydraulic clutch. The input shaft is the same so you can use the Essex clutch, flywheel and pressure plate....

Engine Strip Down Happy new year everyone, I hope 2019's going to be better than 2018 was... Cheers for all the supportive comments, This wasn’t on my agenda at all I really thought I'd be using the car by now! This is the third time I've had a valve seat drop on an Essex. The other two times the n...

Phil how rare is the Yellow needles on the instruments?.
I reckon they're the standard orange ones but faded?
Mine were very similar - Actually very easy to take the front off the cluster and respray the needles using paper to mask off behind them!

Joe's 1972 GTE - MOT'd

You will be able to remove the affected rod and piston by dropping the sump. No need to remove the engine unless you really want to After taking the head off I considered just doing the minimum required to get it back on the road, swapping the piston with the engine in sity and trusting that everyt...

Joe's 1972 GTE - MOT'd

Head off With the head off the results were quite a bit worse than I'd hoped. The valve seat has broken up completely with the fragments damaging th head and the crown of the piston. I've studied the piston & valve carefully, theres been no contact beweeen them that be seen and the valve is not ben...

Wiper assembly. SE4

I've done it on an Straight 6 and had no major problems. All doable from within the engine bay. I think with the motor loose from the bracket and the two top nuts off the wheelboxes the whole lot will drop down as a complete assembly. May well be a job where it helps to have the bonnet off. On a v6 ...

Joe's 1972 GTE - MOT'd

Main reason for not using a second hand tailgate is I'd like the heated rear window to work! Cant be many origonals that are still in working order. Short term I can put another hatch on. I think I've got a spare. But I would definately like the heater rear window to work.

Joe's 1972 GTE - MOT'd

Cheers for all the comments, I did sent Pilkingtons an enquiery about making a batch of tailgate glass that actually were right size for the frame. they said they could do it but it would require a £500 cad setup charge, a minimum order of 10. plus the costs of the screens themselves. I think with t...

Joe's 1972 GTE - MOT'd

Its Broken... Over the first few road miles I noticed that the overdrive (refurbished at the start of 2015) wasn’t working, It want working when the car went off the road in 2017. I'd hoped that an oil change and an alternative (tested solenoid) would be enough to cure it but it clearly needs somet...

MOT TIme: I'm having a slow day after a busy Christmas yesterday. So it seems like a decent opportunity to try and update this thread, its still lagging by a couple of months and I'd really like it to be more up to date! By the end of October I was finally ready for an MOT, Nothing that exciting to...

Joe's 1972 GTE - Is it not Finished Yet?

Hi Andy, Roger's absolutely correct the front spoiler / splitter is a Dolomite sprint one. I'm guessing people have probably been fitting them since the mid 70's? So probably quite a period modification. I bought mine on eBay second hand and it wasnt in the best condition, Its a bit distorted and th...
