SE5 clutch identification

On Joe's coupe (and the 5a) the original bearing carrier takes the early round faced bearing. But both are now fitted with later engines with metric clutches with the curved fingers. It was simply a case of turning the carrier down by about half a mm in order to fit a HD3289. Has been successfully f...

Joe's 1972 GTE - A T5 Gearbox Update...

The Cheapest T5 gearbox I could find was in Linclon (which is well known for being really near to costal west sussex.) Still I suppose It could have been further away...
Naturally because all my collection plans are generally all quite badly thought out. I elected to drive up and collect it straig...

standard brakes

Just a guess but did he hold it in a 3 jaw clamped around the outside of the bell? if so it probably cracked when he tightened the chuck, I always use internal jaws holding it fro the inside of the hub bore for this reason. Also easier to get it running accurately as its that surface that will be lo...

Joe's 1972 GTE - A T5 Gearbox Update...

Yup, I used the standard speedo as the drive runs the same way (clockwise). I did use a non-reversing right-angle drive at the gearbox as, on the Coupe, there is little space between the speedo drive and the chassis and I didn't want to bend the cable too much. Might be better on an SE5a. Cheers, I...

Joe's 1972 GTE - A T5 Gearbox Update...

Heres' the gearbox I bought, a pallet of mystery! Crikey Joe, perhaps that should be " a pallet of misery ". You'll find the Cosworth T5 a doddle to fit compared to the TVR one. Shorten the propshaft and you're almost there! Best of luck with the update. I will get those pics to you before too long...

Joe's 1972 GTE - A Small Update...

T5 Gearbox I've bought a gearbox... I Spent ages looking for a decent Cosworth gearbox at a reasonable price and to be quite honest I struggled, Some sellers were after £1200 for a gearbox that almost certainly needed a complete rebuild... (which costs IRO £1500+ If you send it to a specialist.) I'...

A straight 6 Air box / filter question!

I've just had a look in my copy of the owners manual and strangely it doesnt show the air box at all! though I suppose they may have taken it off for the photos? http://www.industrialbritain.co.uk/forumstuff/s6coupe/99.jpg http://www.industrialbritain.co.uk/forumstuff/s6coupe/100.jpg If you have som...

A straight 6 Air box / filter question!

I recently bought an origonal Reliant air box for my Straight 6. Just wondering if anyone has got a picture of how exactly it should mount on to the carbs? Is it just held on by the base of the air filter or is there a metal / rubber adaptor to bolt on? Heres a couple of pics: http://www.industrialb...

Joe's 1972 GTE - A Small Update...

Joe , tell us more about the head work . Are these the heads off the old engine or a spare pair? Who did you use to fit the inserts? Did you come to any conclusion as to why the hardened seat fell out ? Hi Roy, Those are the heads off the old engine I was keen to keep them as they have been gas flo...

A Small update...
Or is it just far away?
The heads have come back from the machinist, new valve seats have been fitted. So all they really need now is the valves lapping in and they can be built back up again. Slightly bizarrely they took it upon themselves to reface the inlet seats as well, I’m...

Collective Head Scratch - Exhaust Wrap ?

I've tried it in the past when I was when I was trying to lower the underbonnet temperatures on my 5a. I bought 20m worth and there were about 3 or 4 metres left once I'd done both sides. Its actually suprisingly hard to fit the wrap with the exhausts on the car... In the end I'm not sure it made th...
