Looks like a neat bit of welding Frank - Hope you don't need to do much more! Engine and starter look pretty clean too from waht I can see - (unlike mine).

Glad you got the windows sorted. To be honest I was kind of dissapointed that mine wer'nt smoother too.

From what I remember of Rover SD1s they were not that wonderful either - perhaps we are just used to Japanese quality now rather than British Leyland!

The way I've done it it is still going through the fuses but at least I now have a main fuse - looking at the original drawings it looks like Reliant had a lot of things fed from the brown power wires with no fuses untill later on in the circuits (unless I need to study the drawings a bit better...)...

Hi Adam, The light switches on the Scimitar have a fairly high current going through them and are running pretty near their limit. Because of this they produce a bit of heat which basicly shortens their life. Also, as they age and the contacts wear etc. the heat gets worse and so becomes a vicious c...

SE6a On Road Restoration, repair, modification...

I have owned this Scimitar for about 18 months now and thought it about time I put it on here as a proper project report rather than the odd request for information or response to questions etc. I have done a lot to it but, as I am sure many of you know, there is always a lot more that needs doing. ...

Bob, From memeory BLP1068 & 1069. But it looks like Rimmers have recently changed their website - when I ordered (can't be more that a couple of months ago) I don't recall any reference to chassis numbers being made. Perhaps that is why I had to change the plug? I get home on Wed. or Thurs. so can c...

I replaced both my window mechanisims a few weeks ago with SD1 ones from Rimmer Brothers and they are identical apart from the electrical plug which I had to change. It took longer to change the plug than the rest of the job did. I have tried to rebrush and rebuild these motors in the past and it is...

I have had the "I know where there is one of those in a garden" a few times too. One guy at my work even went on to Google Streetview to show me a red one, as he said, in a garden.

Some of the younger generation (the ones that don't know what they are) get very confused when you say "No, RELIANT Scimitar". You get a little half smile and a bewildered look. - they know the word Reliant from Del Boy and Jasper Carrot but can't quite fit it to the old green machine in front of th...

My brother had a simmilar thing with his 1978 Toyota Celica GT; Guy asked him how fast it went and was surprised to hear that it only did about 130 mph. He said "But it is an Aston DB.. (whatever)?" "No" said my brother "its a Toyota". The guy took off very quickly and did not look back. Ha Ha Ha...

Things people have said about your Scimitar

This kind of started on another post but I thought it might be worth starting a post on it anyway (it has probably been done in the past too). Things people have said about your Scimitar: A nice woman in a petrol station; "We used to have one just like that - but the older type". An 'expert' in the ...

Bob, I fitted a Falcon Predator EVO3 Pager Car Alarm (from eBay - of course) and it seems quite good. You can add just about any sensor on to it that you can think of and you can add on central locking too. Seen all sorts of add-ons etc. on eBay for it. Only thing is that it is not an approved insur...

Just joined - SE6a owner.

Hi, found this forum while looking for coil spring information prior to replacing my front springs which are getting a bit tired - looks like it could be a good source of help and information! Car is an SE6a Auto used as my only car come sun, rain, frost or snow. From what I can gather I am thinking...
