Chassis prep

Hi all, I’m currently cleaning off the chassis of my SS1, galvanised, and was wondering if I would be better off just cleaning off the muck and painting it. It’s very solid with at least 95% of the galv still intact. My first thoughts were to have it blasted and re galvanised, too expensive, or to h...

Wishbone strengthening

I already have new ball joints and bushes from GW, just need to extract the old ones!
The strengthening of the bottom wishbone was the welders idea, not sure if he’s come across SS1’s before! I’m really pleased with the outcome and all for less than one replacement strengthened upper one from QRG.

Wishbone strengthening

I’ve just had the strengthened wishbones back from the welder, really pleased with the work. Is there an easy way to remove the bottom ball joints and old bushes?

SS1 colander

Wish that I could say the same old bean, only used them once, never again. I posted on here the service I received and one or two members commented, not good ones. I will stay with GW, never let me down, great service and help.

Just what I was thinking Philip! That chemical metal stuff is supposed to be ok 😉 I won’t buy off QRG, would scrap the car first! Seems odd that one side has cracked above the ball joint hole but is ok on the shock mount and vice versa on the other side. On a brighter note, how do you separate the r...

SS1 colander

Hi, so I started cleaning up the upper wishbones and guess what I found?!! Fresh air!! One side has the crack where it should be(?) and on the other side the shock absorber bracket is rusting through. Can I get away with strengthening the shocker bracket and just plating the upper ball joint bit? Al...

Front bump stops and more.

Cheers Phil, I didn’t want to force them just in case they had some hidden fixing.
And yes please Philip, can you put one aside for me please. I will pm you with a list of other bits too!

Front bump stops and more.

Probably won’t try QRG...bad experience with them! Also on the gearbox, where the clutch cable enters, should there be a rubber boot? The bell housing on my car was very oily inside. The engine had more oil on the outside than the inside and I thought that some of it had found its way into the bellh...

Front bump stops and more.

Hi, can anyone tell me how the front bump stops come off? There doesn’t seem to be anything holding them in as they turn freely.
Also the brake pipe retaining clips, are they 3/16 or 5/16ths?
Does anyone have a front wheel stud I could buy, one of mine snapped.
Cheers, Nigel.

Front hub bearings

Thanks all, I should be able to save the inner race on one side but the other side has collapsed entirely. This was the side where the hub nut was only finger tight.
Graham Walkers her I come! With a long, long list.
