Petrol hose ( again )

A couple of weeks ago I noticed some cracks appearing in the supply hose to the fuel pump, replaced about five years ago with what I thought was good quality hose ( labelled R9, see photo ) I bought some Cohline from AJL and finally got around to replacing it today. A couple of thoughts, most of the...

Electrical problem

After several months of trouble free driving my 1400 has developed an electrical fault, which I hate as car electrics are not my strong suit! All working as normal yesterday, however today I have no ignition light or " brake test light " when ignition switched on. Checked brake fluid level, reservoi...

New soft top.

My soft top has reached the end of its usable life ( the canvas is OK still but most of the stitching is rotted and most seams are coming apart ) A local boat hood company have had a look at it for me and say it is beyond economic repair. Time to save for a new one then ( hard top on at the moment, ...

SS1 'Mr Green' back from the dead.

Well done! Interesting to see that you got it out, complete with gearbox, without removing the nose panelling (only the bonnet, of course). I've always had the impression that removing the nose was virtually essential? Depends on the hoist I think. The hoist I used ( a few years ago now ) would not...

Looks good to me Jim. Are you in tomorrow? I could get to Gloucester pretty much anytime to suit you. Otherwise I'm free Wed or Fri morning.

SS1 Heater fan

Hi Jim

if you think you have a viable spare that would be the easiest option. where is the workshop? When would be a good time for you?

SS1 Heater fan

Anyone got an SS1 heater fan / motor they are willing to sell? Mine has died, rendering the usually fairly useless heater totally useless. Not good at this time of year. Same as a fairly early Fiesta I believe, but a quick e Bay trawl didn't find anything. Or any ideas for a more modern substitute? ...

The photos may flatter it, but if that " needs paint " I hate to think how to describe my white 1400.

I have always used axle stands on the main chassis members on all of the cars I have had - between the lower wishbone ( front ) fixing points on the SS1

I usually go for the main chassis members too. Has the addtional advantage of keeping the axle stands out of my way for most jobs I find.

Non Scim Battery question

Thanks for that folks. I've done too many silly things in the past because I didn't think through what I was doing first.

Little job for me in the morning then.

Non Scim Battery question

The battery on the wife's Meriva is on it's last legs, so I bought a replacement this morning. Rather than dive in and just replace it I read the Haynes manual .... half a page. Dire warnings about central locking, radio needing a code, ECU needing to relearn things etc etc. The radio is the big con...

MoT and headlight dip

I've got another three reflector units somewhere in my spares stash. All from E Bay at different times over the years. When I get a chance I'll line them up and compare them.

Have you confirmed your units should take the P43t (style) bulb rather than the H4 (which the original SS1 units DO take)?
Not yet Phil. I'll look at that before I buy.

MoT and headlight dip

Many thanks all Looks as if we have got to the bottom of it this time. I have always just assumed the bulbs should be H4, so over the years that's what I've fitted when needed. Looks like I've been wrong all this time   Just checked on line, my local Halfords have the correct bulbs ( as ...
