finished bleeding the brakes, all good now. Managed to remove the filler plug from the diff housing, confirmed it was slightly overfilled with fresh oil (I think it must have been done by the garage which changed the shock absorbers on the rear axle). Next job: drive it...

Hello again, First I will apologise to all off you who were so generously helping me through my dilemma for not responding before. I realise now that I was under the influence of a bout of manflu and should have backed-off. Back to the start, I have now stripped and rebuilt the rear brakes (but I wa...

You are probably right to suggest double-flare, Phil. I guess I've been watching too much Youtube!

Tried unsuccessfully to disconnect the existing flexi. The fittings at both ends are seized solid. My options seem to be twofold: 1)obtain 2 new cross-axle copper pipes with UNF fitting on one end to fit existing tee piece and Metric fitting on other end to fit new slave cylinder, or 2)obtain new pi...

Thanks for the offer Andy, but I am afraid my finances are very restricted. Thanks for the information Phil and Roger, that certainly seems to be the situation I am experiencing. My biggest worry is that I damaged the connection to the flexi but I will have another look tomorrow, weather permitting....

Well, I have just got to the point of plumbing the new rear slave cylinders and I have come across a problem. All of the pipe connections were seized solid and, despite cans of penetrating oil and lots of heat, it was impossible to remove them intact. Before doing any damage, I obtained replacement ...

Well done, Roger, your photographs always meet the 'excellent' standard and the awards are well deserved. I, too, had missed the original posting so thanks Mikey for bringing it back up. Roger, have you moved on to self-publishing yet? Since I retired, I find that I am taking fewer photographs but I...

Nigel, If you refer to any of my previous posts on the forum, you will notice that I have a unique skill for doing things back-to-front. If I had checked the slave cylinders earlier, I would have realised that a new master cylinder was unnecessary, saving the cost and time. I had planned to service ...

Yes, Nigel, it's often best to just have a break. Yesterday I spun the car around to give me limited access to the back-end. That was my job for the day, but with all this sunshine, I was inspired to get it jacked up ready for when I make a start on the rear brake investigation. After a refreshing c...

Thanks for all your support and kind words, I am a bit prone to bouts of depression. OK, let's start again. Firstly, I've organised my workspace a little and found the other 2 petrol cans, which are now replenished and ready to go into the tank when I next move the car. I have had the plugs out and ...

Hi, The Scimitar has been laid-up for the last three months due to having too many cars to choose from. A couple of weeks ago, I decided to take the car to the garage and top it up with some fresh petrol. I was also going to use their pressure cleaner to remove some engine bay grime prior to getting...
