Re: Blue Cipher Refresh

Hi Dave, Yes, its a lot more than 38mm difference - however remember the engine sits further back than the kitten (you can see the original kitten mount holes in the foreground of the shot with the engine in) - so that shortens it a bit more. I suppose the question is "is it short enough to use a 3-...

Re: Blue Cipher Refresh

So Part 2: On a much nicer day than today, it was time to drop the engine into the cipher. The first task was to finish off a few house keeping tasks on the engine and gearbox before putting them in. The first is to bend the clutch arm in slightly so that it doesn't foul the transmission tunnel chas...

Re: Blue Cipher Refresh

So back a bit late and posting progress that has been made over several weeks - but progress has none the less been made - its going to be so big I'm splitting the post into two parts :D So with the engine bay empty, one of the things that has bugged me is the lack of tow loops on the car. Looking f...

I agree with Jim - if you've got the time and chance, fit a type 9 gearbox - the engine and your wallet will thankyou for it on the 'A' roads and motorways !!

Re: Things people have said about your Scimitar

From a secretary dropping off my parking pass for a meeting yesterday:

"That's a cute car - did you build it yourself ?"

I didn't think my ss1's panel gaps were that bad !!

Re: Blue Cipher Refresh

the engine is only part of the problem :-) I remember speaking to a trials spec Leige owner who said it was uber reliable - with a Bedford Rascal axle, Suzuki swift engine and Suzuki Jimny gearbox Yes I remember them - the problem they had were they supercharged the 850 engine and then wondered why...

Re: Blue Cipher Refresh

Reliant really should have adopted the Cipher bodyshell ... fixed that for you :-) Just to frighten you some more Jim, I measured up and a 1300 cvh would just about drop in...... Not that I'm planning to - but it would be one scary little car if they had built it(imagine reviver racing you in that ...

Re: Blue Cipher Refresh

Tony Stevens obviously decided the access panel was not big enough because on the green Cipher it goes almost to the end of the footwell, which makes access to the starter motor much easier. Yes, looks like a progressive update thing - and certainly it would handy being bigger like yours - the reac...

Re: Blue Cipher Refresh

I think I still have your original engine in the workshop? Hi Jim, Yes I hadn't forgotten - I'd meant to pick it up when I was popping down to swap over twilights hood - but being a single parent has kind of got in the way of me doing a lot of things at the moment - it may have to go over to the in...

Re: Blue Cipher Refresh

So Progress has been made (a lot of it this morning) and this post is going to be a long one !...... Apologies in advance for the low res of some of the photos - I'm afraid I only had time to use the phones camera throughout this one. Last week we started to make some progress with an eye to whippin...

Re: Twilight (C902 HLG)

A quick update as things have been quiet for a while. After clocking up a fair few miles, it was time to give Twilight a little TLC and replace the Pheasant damaged wing. Once again many thanks Jim for the good panel and Andy for doing such a cracking paint job - its so good it looks "factory" 8) St...

Yes, with that green Tempest outside it could be no other !
Was talking to James a while ago and he mentioned he had more 4 wheelers in than 3 wheelers - must date from then :)

Re: Blue Cipher Refresh

Ok - so a quick update - as there has been progress, but not in getting the engine and gearbox in..... So I was examining the engine bay, eying up the whole "pull the engine out, drop the new one in scenario" when I noticed the brake master cylinder is looking worse for wear. It seems the years of b...
