Lighter Spare Wheel

Thank you for the advice and information. I, probably, am going to regret writing this but I can't remember when last I had a puncture in any of my wheels - push-bikes, motor-bikes or cars. So, hopefully, the spare wheel will continue to be just insurance. Luggage, normally, will be carried on a boo...

Lighter Spare Wheel

Test-fitted a 'skinny' wheel from a Volvo 480 to my 1800Ti today - no problems. So, in future, the spare carried in the car will be a lot lighter and easier to handle. Also, there will be space to install town & country air horns - another bonus. However, I wonder if there are any drawbacks. I have ...

Power-tool Batteries

Lost this topic and took two days to re-find it so apologies for not replying earlier. Thanks to all who added their info. Data on the cells reads "Haiding" (presumably the company name). Ni-Cd Battery SC 12V 1300mAb then the what looks like "Ig". Don't have a large soldering-iron so Corky's tabbed ...

Power-tool Batteries

Apologies if this post is OOO, but I could do with some help and hope somebody can be of assistance. A couple of my power-tool batteries have died and will not accept a charge. Replacements batteries being unavailable, I decided to investigate the duff batteries. Opening one up revealed several smal...

Headlight Motor Relay

Greetings, one and all. Quote "it ought to be quicker than posting from Gloucester" It would be, if I could obtain a relay at my local Halfords but they don't appear to sell relays anymore! My local car specialist provided a relay. He checked the numbers and lay-out and pronounced it was the "right ...

Headlight Motor Relay

Thanks Jim.
It's a Type B. There's no legend on my relay, just some numbers.
I'll try Halfords tomorrow - it ought to be quicker than posting from Gloucester.

Headlight Motor Relay

Greetings, searched the forum but can't find the answer to my question. What is the P/No of the headlight motor relay? This is the bottom relay of the three in the column nearest the rear wall of the engine compartment. In the handbook it is labelled 'Headlamp Motor Switching'. If the relay is obsol...

Ti wiper problem

Try removing the wiper and its arm and taping the spindle leaving the tape open at the top and filling it with 3 in1 oil or something similar - the oil will work its way down and hopefully free the mechanism. I do this once a year to keep things free. Good idea Peter. The wiper on my 1800Ti has alw...

SS1 roll bar

Greetings Everybody this thread has revived my interest in "elf n safely''. In the cause of safety, I'd like to install a roll-bar (set of roll-bars?) in my 1800 SST - has anybody got the full kit for sale? If this isn't the place to ask - please, can somebody direct me to the right place? Thanks an...

SS1 wheel HUB (not stud) nut socket size?

Quote: The 32mm socket got enough purchase on the front nut that it loosened. Puleeese - use the correct size socket every time. An over-size socket plus an extension bar = rounded nuts! Then try to remove the rounded nuts - you'll find out what the word 'difficult' really means. If necessary, buy a...

To Add, or Not To Add?

Curborough today; got talking about fuel additives. My 1800SST has always been powered by additive-boosted unleaded fuel but I was informed - additive not required - use a higher-rated fuel, i.e. 98 octane. Searched the forum but was unable to find definitive answer, So, I ask - additive or not? Ans...

SSh fuel pipe leak

Phil, my advice on the 'tap' test is be very careful! When you've seen a Canberra tip tank plunge to the floor because the 'tap' test had convinced senior & more experienced personnel than yourself that the tank was nearly empty and safe to remove; you do begin to doubt the wisdom of the 'tap' test....

Many years ago, an RAF colleague suspected his neighbour of stealing coal so he wired - feed to the door-handle, return to a steel mesh mat in front of the door - to the coal-house door.. Luckily for somebody, after listening to all the horrified comments, he went home and disconnected his 'aversion...
