Starter solenoid issue?

Thanks Andy, that sounds very logical. The battery WAS low as I said, but I had a long run to the noggin on Thursday albeit with lights on on the way back so should have been ok.

Starter solenoid issue?

Curious to know what/why this has happened in the first place and how it came to be fixed. Tried to start SAR (my 5 for those that have led a very sheltered life  ) and most unusually she didn't fire up as quickly as normal, in fact she actually didn't fire at all though she tried. I found then...

SE5a quarterlight bracket

Hi Kev, I have one :hurrah: :hurrah: It's the whole of the passenger side quarterlight but the fitting bolts along the bottom edge are missing. However the "eye" that you're looking for is there and is just riveted into the frame as I'm sure you know. You're welcome to it, but as it's obviously a ve...

Castrol GTX

I thought SN was low in zinc, and nothing higher (alphabetically) than SL should be used in pre-2000 engines? That is my understanding too. I’ve been doing a bit of research on suitable oils for older engines and it can be very confusing. As many opinions on which oil is best as there are oils. How...

Calculation of force

I've been retired a long time now and so my brain doesn't work as well as it did so I might be missing a trick here, but.... The weight of the mass acts vertically down, any force required to move the mass requires a horizontal component. As there is no friction there is nothing to oppose the force ...

B-pillar Back to Black

As a slight aside, I have a pair of highly polished stainless steel B post covers that came with SAR when I bought it back a few years ago. If anyone's interested I could get rid for the price of a few beers  I could take a pic if there is any interest.

Ians GTC rebuild. Now the work begins

Looking fantastic Ian. Did you use SMS for the paint job in the end? I know what you mean about replacing parts 'cos they look a bit naff, but there has to be some compromise or else the car ends up more new and less original if you know what I mean. A bit like Trigger's Broom  :D . Looking fo...

MOT exemption

Geoff, as I understand it , your car is automatically MOT exempt at 40 yrs. If you go for a voluntary test, the garage will apply the same standards as they do now, but it won't be entered in the computer, they will just give you the report. It is your legal responsability to decide whether the car...
