So I am currently in Albert looking at the WW1 memorials, battle fields and museums. My son Chris an I crossed the channel on an overnight ferry from Portsmouth to L'Harvre and then drove across country to Albert, via Amiens, avoiding the toll roads. Fantastic roads, virtually devoid of traffic. The speed limit is only about 50mph, but since my overdrive is non functional, it's not an issue. Actually it's been very relaxing. It's hot though, but not as hot as last week, apparently.

Delville Wood, Mametz, Carnouy, Danzig Alley, and Lochnagar mine crater, Bapaume, yesterday afternoon. Today, we are walking into Albert in the morning to visit the Somme museum, and no doubt stop at a cafe for a coffee....The to the Theipval memorial to ring Chris great great grandfather, who was killed in Delville Wood in Aug 1916. Alas, one of the many unknown soldiers.

Today, we walked into town (Albert) and visited the Musee de la Somme, which was excellent, as it is located under the Cathedral..but you exit a few hundred yards away in a park. The whole museum is subterranean.

Then we went to the the Thiepval memorial and museum. I was able to get the combat report for when my great grandfather was killed from the excellent volunteers at the CWGC. He met his end attacking Waterlot farm, just outside Delville Wood.

We then went on to Beaumont Hamel, visited another mine crater, Hawthorn Ridge, then went on to the impressive Newfoundland memorial, which still has preserved trench systems, both Allied and German, facing each other.

The Scimitar is hanging in there, but I am letting it cool for an hour before checking her over for the trip home. We are dropping oil, and she has used a bit.

I went to the Newfoundland Memorial after Thiepval too.

At the hotel in Albert there were some visiting Morgan employees and spouses on a tour. Had a chat with a few of them. They were very kind and curious about my shabby old Scimitar....

I did not know about about Morgan.

My car is properly sick however. It's blowing oil out of the oil cap down the side of the engine. And there is a wet tar like deposited on inside of the nearside exhaust.

No clouds of smoke or anything, but definitely poorly. It did, however, stay running and I had no overheating or anything. And all cylinders firing, all gears selecting, etc.

And I had an annoying squeling noise from the front of the engine when cruising. Not there at idle, not there when accelerating, but there at half throttle all the time, eventually.

I pulled the bonnet when I got home, and could see lots of oil mist venting from the filler cap. And lots of oil in that area. Got my son to lightly rev my car, but the noise was not apparent when not under load.

I will check the plugs when things have cooled down. I think I might have to pulled the head off on that side. I think the culprit might be number 4 pot.....

The Morgan crowd were quite keen for me to visit. They gave me a couple of brochures for the factory tour.....Did not know it cost so much though...😉

The PCV can make a noisy squeal sometimes? A blocked vent system could also explain the oil mist?

Well, I have a wet plug on number 4. And number 2 is pretty dark as well. Just done the tappets, which were not really that far off anywhere. Got a compression tester, just got to get her warmed up for confirmation.


Winter is going to be busy.

So to round off. Finally this morning I took the old girl for a run to warm her up, 15 or 20 miles in a loop and back to the drive.

Popped off the airfilter, disconnected the fuel, the main HT lead, and pulled all the plugs - my they're hot! But they were all a nice grey brown and none of them were covered in oil. The car ran okay. This provided a little false hope

Out with the compression tester and with the help of my wife, who was 'manning' the ignition, here are the results:

1 - 150
2 - 135
3 - 145+
4 - 20
5 - 150
6 - 165

Oh dear.

I did not put any oil in the cyclinder, as when I pulled the copression tester the end was wet.

Looks like an early end to the season.
