New door locks

Post by Penfold13 » Sat Mar 23, 2019 9:16 pm

Hello,

I’m looking for a pair of new door locks and an ignition lock for my ‘72, SE5A. I’m struggling to find what to look for and both QRG and Walkers have gone quiet on me. Where’s the best spot to get them from?

Thank you,
Chris

New door locks

Post by Penfold13 » Sun Mar 24, 2019 10:26 am

Hello,

Thank you for the information. I'm struggling to find anything which matches the description though.

Is it easier to buy a barrel or a complete handle and lock kit?

Thanks,
Chris

Type classic mini door handles into eBay - like this

Not sure that the ignition lock is mini - and there’s some atdifferent angles if you’re after the complete thing.

I was slow up the uptake there, BL is British Leyland.

That’s great, new handles ordered now. I just need to sort out the ignition now.

I seem to be struggling to get any response by email from the two main parts suppliers, I guess I’ve got to find an opportunity to phone them whilst at work. Is this normal?

Thanks,
Chris

Nigel at QRG is usually quick to respond to emails but I think I read that he was away (on holiday?). It’s much quicker to phone Graham than wait for a reply to an email.

Hello,

And for the tailgate ?
Is the lock common to other vehicles?

Tailgate lock was also used on the Bond Bug as a canopy handle. I can't think of another big manafacturer that used that part, Lotus possibly?

All the exterior locks and handles were Willmot Breeden Products (they made most locks and handles for the uk car manufacturers.) The company still trade as Western Body Hardware: http://www.westonbodyhardware.com/our-products/ So may be worth giving them a ring?

Theres a few other Scimitar Items listed in their catalouge too...!
