J overdrive plug tool

Post by Dennis Nicholas » Wed Feb 13, 2019 1:00 pm

Referring to plug tool L354A for removing pump, filter etc. plugs.
www.buckeyetriumphs.org/technical/jod/JOD2/JOD2.htm shows a tool made up to do the job. Can anyone give the dimensions:-
1. Diameter of metal disk (with square 3/8" ratchet hole)
2. thickness of that disk
3. Size of roll pins
4. hole centres for roll pins (i.e. centres of plug holes)

I want to have the tool made and ready for use before starting the drain and filter clean of the overdrive box.
Overdrive repair services say the high pressure filter plug washer is alloy and they can usually use them again. However knowing my luck My washer would be damaged/get broken. They only show a full 'O' ring/gasket pack in their on line shop and since I only wanted the plug washer and sump gasket I had to get the individual items from MOSS (TR6 etc. uses J type overdrive). Rear oil seal from an ebay seller.

I removed the plugs on the first overdrive I cleaned, with a pair of snipe nosed pliers! That was presumably dumb luck because the second one I did was locked solid, so I made a tool up using a thick walled socket - not sure I still have it but I have a J type on the bench that needs cleaning, so I could measure the plug this weekend.

Jim
Thanks for that offer. I will include measurements once I have made one and put picture up on scimweb.
Second hip replacement in a couple of weeks so zero activity in the garage at the moment. First replacement last Nov going well.....but surgeon refused to put in grease nipple for my AFMT injection. Also going nowhere and meeting nobody after catching nasty bug at Christmas and having to postpone the 2nd hip operation in Jan...taking no chances! Much catching up paperwork and gentle tidying up and job list planning!

Sorry for the delay Dennis, just measured the plugs and they’re all 5/8” centre to centre and 1/8” dia holes - also approx 1/8” deep.
