Hi Tim, and welcome! That's an interesting and historic car, and an eye-catching set of colours. The gold must have really stood out, "back in the day" :D

Great stuff, thanks Tim.
I had a question number against the chassis number, and a last seen date of 1999 so that's a good update.
My Coupé paint was the same when we stripped it, except I had blue instead of psychedelic metal flake.
We didn't know it had been golden sands until we got through the other layers, otherwise it might have gone back to the original colour.
What are you planning to paint yours - or haven't you thought that far yet?

Here's another one, and it could even be another BRE, but I think it is HRE 409F.
This was apparently another press car, photo from 1968.
Can anybody add details ?

That photo comes from an article entitled "Long-Range Mile Eater" which was a road test of a Scimitar Coupe 2.5 litre from a 1968 edition of a magazine called "Speedworld", which is reproduced in the yellow-covered book of road test reprints. It confirms the reg in the text as HRE409F, though the photo is reproduced fairly badly, and it's not visible there. The test seems to consist of driving it to France for Le Mans. I think the photo is taken in France (the sign in the background is legible).

Thanks Roger, I hadn't noticed that it was in France, I'm so used to seeing signs in french - and driving on the right
If it's a 2,5 then it is almost certainly 5002 (HRE 408F is 5001)

Here's the latest Alternative Register, in reg no order for a change and including a glimpse of the notes.
I must find a way of transmitting this info, in spreadsheet format it now makes 105 pages if copied in .pdf
I have to copy each page of 60 lines onto 13 text pages and then save all as .pdf - not very convenient.
Then convert to .jpg for the forum!

That photo is definately HRE 409F, It features in "Speedworld International" magazine dated May 11th 1968. It's a 2.5 litre Scimitar on test by Douglas Armstrong.

Wow, there's some stuff there to browse, thanks Dave!

First comments
Who was Adrian Ball?
Did Classic & Sportscar (or their readers) in jul '94 understand the play on words Coupe De'glass = Coupe de glace = ice cream sundae  ?
Do I understand Retro Cars in aug '04 headline Flat Liners ... nope.

I'm not certain of his official title, but I think he was effectively Reliant's publicity man / graphic designer for much of the key period. Many of the brochures, Owners' handbooks, etc., say something like "Designed by Adrian Ball & Associates" on them.

Dave are there any colour pictures of AUE38B in its early days , just wondered if it was always brown ? Not the best colour for a prototype car that you want to show off.
