SE6A Fuel Pump
Only the earlier 40s have a gauge filter at the inlet. Did you check for fuel flow as soon as the engine cut out? It sounds like a gummed up carb to me?

That's what I thought but have stripped it and cleaned all chambers and blown the jets thru. The result is exactly the same.

If you have a gauze filter it will be at the Inlet to the carb. You will see a 19mm brass hex head plug under the inlet pipe to the carb.

That’s on a 40, not a 38DGAS.Johniewalshe wrote: ↑Sat Jun 23, 2018 9:38 pmIf you have a gauze filter it will be at the Inlet to the carb. You will see a 19mm brass hex head plug under the inlet pipe to the carb.

Have you got fuel flow when the engine stops?

If you put a fuel pressure gauge on right before the carb you will be able to see if you have the correct fuel flow/pressure when it cuts out. That will rule that out.
Also did you check the float height and condition on the float valve, not sure the correct term for it!

This is not meant to sound silly, but.......your new pump could be delivering too much pressure, overcoming the carb float needle, and flooding the engine. Does it smell of petrol immediately after stopping? Even though your filter is only half full(so is mine most of the time) , a regulator in the system is a good idea. I can't see in your post what sort of pump you have. A Facet Red Top will deliver too much pressure for the DG38, which only wants about 4lbs. The Silver Top is more suitable. I have a Red Top, with a pressure regulator set at about half of maximum, it works fine.
