reversing light switch
Before I start to find out why my reversing lights have failed can anyone tell me where the switch is on the gearbox. Should it come to that I would like to know which side of the car I have to jack up to get at it.

Re: reversing light switch
Is this on the auto Peter? If so it is the combined inhibit and reverse switch same side as the shift linkage and slightly above. Fragile to remove apparently, you need a box spanner I'm told.
If it is the manual, then I have no idea.

Re: reversing light switch
If manual, I would guess its right under the gearlever, driver's side.

Yes its a auto - just been out for a look and find that its intermittent so it can wait until the summer. Knowing where it is helps though - thanks Andy.

Re: reversing light switch
If it is the auto, the plug may have worked loose. However I would expect that to cause starting issues too, as the inhibit relay will lose its ground.

Re: reversing light switch
Never had trouble starting but it could just be a bad connection on the lights side of the switch/plug.

Re: reversing light switch
I had this problem a while back, 12V for this comes via a connector mounted just forward of the wiper motor. It also feeds the kick down switch mounted on the throttle body. This connector seems to be prone to water ingress, despite the crimp terminals visually appearing to be in good condition, one of them had corroded badly at the thinnest part of the crimp and fell apart while checking for continuity. Might be worth checking before getting under the car.
