20 year anniversary of Senna & Ratzenbergers deaths at Imola

Post by CNHSS1 » Thu May 01, 2014 1:43 pm

today is the 20 year anniversary of the Imola Grand Prix weekend where Roland Ratzenberger and Ayrton senna died in separate incidents.

doesn't seem that long ago, until you look at pics of the cars and they look archaic in performance design and safety design. At least their respective deaths moved F1 safety (and all motorsport safety really) to where the cars are much safer for driver and spectators alike.

gonna watch the senna film again tonight I think

RIP Guys

Before my interest in motorsport really began, but undeniably one of the biggest losses the sports seen.

Shame he isn't remembered in quite the same way as Senna, no memorial plaque for him there apparently.
Been some really good programmes on Sky F1 over the past week or so, quite moving some of them.
I agree fully about the safety improvements, current drivers in all forms of motorsport walk way from accidents that would have been life changing if not ending in Senna's era, and that's not so long ago in the scale of things really.

No it doesn't feel like 20 years driver safety has greatly improved and he's for the greater good it's just a shame the engines do not sound as good!

Just watched it you could hear the cries as the cash got broken into bits! Just as a side the clip on the boat was best!

Ratzenbergers BMW M3touring car that was sponsored (and owned) by Demon Tweeks is often on display in their showroom. It hasn't been raced since out of respect but has been demo'd at Cholmendly Pageant of Power by Alan Minshaw iirc (Mr Demon Tweeks)
