Snetterton 18 October 2008

Post by turbster » Mon Oct 20, 2008 10:13 pm

My weekends motorsport was not as successful as others... I drove Dannys Sabre at Snetterton, we qualified 18th with a faulty rev limiter giving a hard limit at 5k...Danny started to make up places and then got hit in the rear by a spinning XK150 Jag, breaking the light on the Sabre and destroying the door of the Jag  The impact had made Danny push hard on the throttle pedal breaking a return spring and causing the throttle to stick open a few laps later... After limping back to the pits I got in and waited for a new spring to be found and a repair made, after the longest 10 mins of my life, I got out and was well impressed with the car now it would rev!! I was starting to enjoy my self when another XK decided to shear it's axle in front of me, I manged to avoid him but the safety car came out, and stayed out for 5 laps leaving me with only a couple left before the end. I got back up to speed to try and set a decent lap time, I got to the end of the straight and caught a slower car, he braked early catching me out, I lost the rear under braking, having caught the slide I couldn't make the corner and had another sideways moment as I ran wide onto the grass, so after a bit of grass tracking I got back on and finished the lap which was the last...

We didn't classify in the results, but despite all the drama I enjoyed driving the car and can't wait to go there next season with Orange 5 MK4 :D

Poor old Sabre getting beaten up by a big Jag, just after it had been repainted too. Sorry it didn't go well... At least you did it all with no novice cros though!

Anyway what's this about mk 4 Scimitar, I seem to have missed out on what mk 3 was, or were you counting the sprint / hillclimb version as mk 2?

OK, I'm a bit confused now :?

MK1: Wide arched triple carbed sprint car
MK2: Standard arches, T5, Weber 500 carb circuit racer
MK3: Yet another change of appearance, new exhaust system and honing the bits which are not quite as I'd like...

MK4 is in the planning stages as I might need to up my game a bit

So MK3, not 4....

Great car, feels quick, very neutral... not as planted as GTE, but there again that's probably a weight issue and you can just drift it so nicely around the fast corners, so not a problem really. If it had 220hp it would be a seriously fast car... here lies the problem...

Not a good weekend then Paul :?
At least you didn't hit anything :D The Sabre looked a bit of a handful when I was watching back at Brands in April. What's the suspension setup?

As per GTE really, just with shorter wheelbase/track and less weight, I definetley wouldn't describe it as a hand full as it's very progressive and only broke away under heavy braking while turning in, and then it was catchable. Like I said, just short of a decent amount of power...

How's it looking for the Birkett mate??
