Thanks for the help guys. I'm very tempted by this http://www.printerland.co.uk/Xerox-Work ... 35324.aspx . It gets good reviews around the web, the compatible toners don't seem too expensive and it appears to do everything I need it to.

Looks like a machine I would have considered. However, those full cartridges are only 1000 sheet, whereas mine are something like 8000 sheets, so you may want to calculate costs per page.

Do you want my old printers and cartridges to save me throwing them out?

...I need a printer of some sort to plug into this rather cheap Lenovo B50 laptop - never had one before so this thread has been a bit 'ova me 'ead'.....(like any of 'em that are remotely technical... :?) It's 20yrs. since I had to occasionally faff around with what then passed for printers at work... :)

Lasers work like any other printer, except that they don't have dried up nozzles when you want to use them. don't need special paer and are generally cheaper to run than inkjets.

I'm about to throw a couple of "consumable" inkjet printer/scanners - mainly because the times they've needed new cartridges it's been cheaper to buy a new printer. I had an old Laserjet 4 for years - print quality of even an older Laser beats an inkjet every day but I don't print enough to warrant buying one at the moment.
