Latest W10 update distaster

Post by alan.wells » Tue Jul 31, 2018 10:10 pm

Hi Folks,
Over Monday night Microsoft updated my W10,this morning I could not recognise my desktop, my folders had disappeared along with all my shortcuts, and no longer to access outlook 2007, loosing all my folders within, I have spent all day trying to move forward to access, but with no avail. I have now carried out a system restore back to 11/7/18, and now back to normal after 14 hours, however can anyone help as to how I can save all my important outlook information folders before w10 update gets access to my folders again.
I've tried to stop updates but apparently it not available.
hoping for help
Alan

You can back up all your Outlook files.

Click on Files at the top and select Import and Export. Click Export to a file and select Personal File Folder. Select the email account to backup and this will create a *.pst file which you can save and re-import once W10 has done it's dastardly deed.

Outlook 2007 is rather ancient mind so it might well cause future problems on forthcoming W10 updates. The wonders of Microsoft!

Alan, you will need to update Outlook 07 - it hasn’t been supported for ages and there’s about 3 newer versions that will run better with W10 :D

When you say “outlook folders” I presume you mean folders full of email messages?

They can be saved quite easily (and opened with later versions of outlook) as .pst files - instructions here

There is also a workaround for the W10 inability to disable automatic updates here
