Re: Trial SS1
The one I bought a couple of years ago was rock hard, I remember thinking that that was probably a bad thing.
I'd definitely be interested in a poly one though... oil resistant!

Re: Trial SS1
I have recieved a very good email from Alan Jux who trialed a SS1.
He had fitted chevette springs but gained no ground clearence despite the springs being longer.
Will i gain ground clearance by fitting the chevete springs and moving the inboard mounting bolts on the dampers apart by two inches?

Re: Trial SS1
no - dampers don't set height, spring length and stiffness does. All you'll do by moving the inboard damper mounts outboard is lose travel in compression.

Re: Trial SS1
I have some of these to go on the freelander ( when I get a spare day)

would the same type of spacer idea work on the SS1

Re: Trial SS1
the Freelander spacers go between the body and the suspension - the equivelant for an SS1 would be spacers under the front springs - but the rears are coilovers, so it would be a big job to raise the body using the existing suspension. There are at least 4 other SS1s in regular trials - what do they use?

Re: Trial SS1
He's Davis Robinson & Ann? who have just cleaned the edinburgh classic trial [but they say was dry & lots cleaned it]. He has had a very successful season now he has installed a 1800sierra engine & P100 gearbox- winning a championship - sorry I forgot which one.
He has been developing the car over 4 years & thinks its about right now
I think he said used standand length springs with spacers to raise the ride height standard rate on the front & 450 on the back but don't quote me as were just chatting at the noggin. He's very keen to get weight out of the front & put it in the back, battery, spare wheels mounting frame for wheels etc.
Has 14" wheels with 175 tyres, was talking about modifying the front scoop as catches the mud other than that happy with the ride height

Re: Trial SS1
I didn't know he'd fitted the P100 box too - lower ratio type 9. I know he was very happy with the torque of the 1800. I have rough spare panels if you want to keep the decent ones Steve.
