2016 Academy--And the winner is

Post by CNHSS1 » Tue Feb 02, 2016 7:55 pm

As you will have seen in slice and on here, the RSSOC run an Academy for 1st time sprinters and hillclimbers running within the SSSC Championship in a scimitar. Primarily aimed at roadgoing cars, the idea is to give the lucky winner some financial assistance to cover mandatory safety gear (helmet, gloves and race suit and a free entry to the clubs blue riband event, our annual August Scimitarfest Sprint. Josh Oakes was the inaugural winner and even went on to win the overall championship title, I'd like to think partly due to the assistance the RSSOC and its team supplied.
Criteria in brief is
1st time holder of a competition licence
Be an ambassador for the competition arm of the club and SSSC
compete in a minimum of 7 events within the SSSC in your academy year

You will also have the help of a mentor, who can assist with car prep queries, help you with first event application, be there at first event to get you through the day and basically dispel any myths you may have. Not compulsory but there if you want it.

To apply send me an email outlining why you think you'd be a good candidate and it will be decided upon by club committee. Decision will be made on March 1st. Any more queries contact myself or Mikey Bikey

Chars my dears!

It's going to be a hectic year I can tell you that, but life is too short to postpone the things you love, and I've been itching to come out sprinting for years now. The hope is that traveling up and down the county might actually be a nice way of getting away from the house and out of the county for the weekends - that was the pitch to Mrs R-R anyway.

For once though I actually have a car that I am confident to put my faith in, and prepared to give it full attack. Ok, not anything to get excited about being a measly 1300, but hopefully the handicap system should balance that out a bit. If Josh Oakes showed us anything last year, it's that attendance and consistency is key (and driving bloomin' well ofc)

The club's support is going to help massively with getting out on track and staying there. The financial aspect has been one thing keeping me from it in the past, but more so it's having others to chivvy you along and get you faced in the right direction. Amongst others, Mr Comp Sec. has been a massive help so far, and I expect to be picking the forums brains in the coming couple of months with the finer details.

Given that my current "Reviver's Scimitars" thread is a right old box of ramble, I was intending to split off and start a new thread for the campaign and development of "KMG". Projects section or competition section, where'd we think it should go?

Oh yes, be warned, you can expect my face to grace the Slice pages once more, and I'm even less pleasing on the eye than my registrar days
