Yup. I just meant that a link from the competition section web page would be good.

I think we could do a lot more to play off the history of the sporting reliants hill climbing and sprinting.

I've just got back from a wonderful day in the sun with the 5a at a small show and it's made my day complete to find real positive discussion of what to do with the Compie pages and forum section. Thanks guys! Sorry I got off on the wrong foot, but alls well that ends well, eh? :). I'll do my best to achieve whatever you decide upon.

Jim, you sent an email around a few months back about spliting the compie section up - but I cant find it. What where you proposing?

I want to start a dialogue here about what people want so we can make it happen. I dont mind spending time helping put it together, or moving threads around if that helps the mods.

For the competitors/car profiles section is it possible to make a forum section where people can only make 1 post per thread? That way competitors could have a dedicated section where they can write theyre own profile and edit/update it, but it not become a build thread / big debate.

Jim and I had a quick recent follow up discussion about this (after we'd talked about it earlier in the year); the problem being how to split it up as certain posts could end up in more than one section - or a section becomes too crowded. Any input welcome though!

Not that I've spotted (only one-time feature seems to be a poll) although no problem making a locked forum that only Mods and Admins can move profiles into which can't be commented on. Not the same, I know...

no point in making it complicated - and users have to retain ownership IMHO - just moderate it closely (ie put "no replies" in the subtitle and move/delete any chit-chat if necessary :-))

I was thinking you wouldnt want many sections
1 SSSC
1.1 General
1.2 Reports
1.3 Profiles
2 Trials
3 Rallying
4 Racing
5 General Motorsport Chat

I dont think there would be too much confusion there.

For the profiles, I think Jims right. A sticky with a proforma in it if we want and asking that people dont chit chat on them, and then we just delete any the does crop up. Theres nothing wrong with chit chat - but theres a risk these will become build threads instead of 'top trumps' type profiles.

agreed on keeping the sections down - and just looking at sprint/hillclimb now, I'd suggest:

SSSC (calendar, personalities etc) - this sub-section would be the one we linked to on the forum front page, FB, etc
a sub-section for venues (links to their webpage, tips about the paddock orientation, camping, etc)
another for newbies (basic "how-to" get your road car into roadgoing or mod-prod with links to blue book)
sub-section for ACTUAL events (by date) - so SHELSLEY WALSH 21 Sept 2013 contains entry regs (or link), who's in, event results, event reports
general chit-chat inc points updates

I think some of the download info should go on the actual web page. I think its important to maintain a presence on the RSSOC home page, and not reduce the SSSC web presence to just a forum - Even if the SSSC section of the web page is only an intro and a 'downloads' section, with links to the forum, facebook, youtube, results archive etc.

I do like the idea of a section for venues, and also a bit with the events by date and the associated bits and bobs.

Nick H's 'how to' should be on SSSC web page as a PDF download IMHO. I think we need to avoid too many sections as it soon gets too watered down - the competition section is hardly fast moving as it is, so Id say start with the minimum, and split it futher in the future if we ned to.

what about:
1.0 SSSC - Containing;
1.1 General (This covers tech, and newby questions imo)
1.2 Events
1.3 Profiles
1.4 Venues

2.0 Trials

3.0 Rallying

4.0 Racing

5.0 General Motorsport Chat

I think it's vital that any front page only contains links and very general info - or we end up with the out of date info we currently have. Everyone goes into it with the best intentions but priorities change and people move on.

Very true. Just the intro and a couple of other bits should go on the front page.

I was thinking of a downloads section on the actual website to hold all the SSSC membership form etc, but maybe we have a downloads and links area on the forum, where we can list regs and any useful links people find.

So (using MSA terminology) how about:

Motorsport Section

1.0 Sprints/Hillclimbs sub-section
1.1 Venues (sticky)
1.2 Profiles (sticky)
1.3 Events
1.4 General

2.0 Trials sub-section
2.1 Venues (sticky)
2.2 Profiles (sticky)
2.3 Events
2.4 General

3.0 Rallying sub-section
3.1 Venues (sticky)
3.2 Profiles (sticky)
3.3 Events
3.4 General

4.0 Circuit Racing sub-section
4.1 Venues (sticky)
4.2 Profiles (sticky)
4.3 Events
4.4 General

I wouldn't have a "general" section after that as some people head straight for it and leave a mod to put it in the right place (can you tell I work in the UI side of IT :D )

Looks good to me. I'm not sure trials etc has enough users to make good use of the sub sections? But id like to be proven wrong!

The only reason for a general section in my eyes is to give somewhere to chat about F1, Le Mans, etc.

I still think some info (like Craig was saying about the explanation if the spreadsheet in another thread) needs to be on the main page and not the forum, as the website reads better than the forum when you first come to it and are trying to glean info.

Otherwise, I think what you have there is our proposed format - unless anyone else has any opinions...

When you say sticky, its still a sub category, but contains sticky'd threads cared for by the mods?

it's still a sub-cat but it always stays at the top, no matter how many general discussion threads are opened.
