I was searching through some old photos and came across a couple that I took back in the late 90's at Muirkirk/Kames sprint circuit in Scotland of Purple Haze fitted with the 2.9 24v cologne at that time. I spoke to the owner who was from Edinburgh. Did a little search and came across this thread and wondered if this car still around. The car in the original post and Dave's pics is the one I'm talking about not a 5.
John.

Yes, it's still around. It was out in testing at Curborough last summer (2012). I have photos too (but not at this time in the morning! :)

Purple Haze is now owned by Dave Greenhalgh, a regular (and class champ) in the early 2000s in a Roadgoing GTE. He bought Purple Haze in a rather dischevelled state and has since spent ages goiing through it. Most of the engineering is done, but bodywork needs titivating. Car nows runs a small block chevy V8, think just over 5 litres (289 maybe?). Dave has tested the car twice at Curbs now. Really hope its at Curbs in August to compete, be great to see it out in anger.

Dave if you are reading this--pull ya finger out mate ! ;-)

Sounds the business! If its a 5 litre Chevy it'll probably be a 305ci the 289 was the Ford which I've got in the Cobra. The proper engine some may say for a Cobra. Might try and make Curborough this year to see the changes.
Love watching the cosworth essex powered GTE on youtube - what a sound! Twin cammed essex must be a beauty of an engine.
John.

Purple Haze
Built by Stan Johnstone in Edinburgh
Mega worked on Cosworth V6 built by AES engines in Norfolk
Shell lightened and lowered

Build up photos are impressive

Stan told me the car handled and went well......new owner fitted the heavy Chevy V8
Not sure about the cars whereabouts now.

Stan is now building another light weight race car.

Dave Greenhalgh has purple haze in Cumbria. He currently competes in a bright yellow GTE 5a, was at Curbrough this year

A wee Metro with a big engine and 6r4 panels
I really like his ideas on weight saving.
Car is coming along nicely from what I've seen.
