2019 SSSC Academy

The following will appear in the next edition of Slice:

"Academy Programme 2019
For yet another year the committee have agreed to sponsor the RSSOC Academy programme. This is a way for the club to support and encourage newbies every year into Competing. Anyone interested in applying should contact me direct either via email or through the forum. To be considered any prospective driver should send me a brief outline suggesting why they would like to be considered, their Scimitar background and a few lines about themselves (career, location etc. anything of interest e.g. you are a keen ballroom dance enthusiast or won the 1989 International telemarketing championships, that’s sort of thing).
The committee will consider all applications and recommend one lucky recipient for the award of £500 towards safety equipment for the driver helmet, race suit and gloves, with anything remaining to go towards entry fees (money not to be spent on car performance mods). The winner also gets a free entry (worth circa £100) to the RSSOCs Curbrough sprint in August.
The successful applicant will also have the option of a ’mentor’, usually a current competitor that either lives locally to the successful applicant or has a similar car. Or can default back to Comp Sec. They will answer queries such as licences, scrutineering, general prep etc, and if possible, attend the applicant’s first event just to demystify the process.
There is a catch of course. In return the competitor will be expected to complete a season, minimum of 7 events, and do an article for each slice during their first year, basically the pros and cons, highs and pitfalls of competing as a newbie, their thoughts, views, successes and failures during the year."

Anyone interested please get in touch.

Never try and argue with an idiot. They drag you down to their level, then beat you based on experience.
