MB Silicone hose set - SE6B compared?

Post by drcdb15 » Fri Apr 06, 2018 12:30 am

Nigel at QRG tells me he doesn't offer a silicone hose set for MB, and precious few other suppliers do for the Cologne either - perhaps because the Cologne doesn't ever seem to have been a favourite for tuning and racing?

However, one supplier offers this kit for the SE6B Cologne (I am presuming the 2.8 ) :

Does anyone have any knowledge of how this compares with an MB (or even a Granada/Scorpio) hose set? Does it look as if with a few tweaks this could be modified to fit the MB? Or is it so wildly different it's best 'not to start from here' ?

I believe George Sampford sent off a full set of Middlebridge hoses to a silicone hose manufacturer as patterns, I'm not sure of the outcome and I'm out of the Country at the moment.

Hope this helps

Mick

Strangely I found myself looking at their website last night. May order 2 or 3 GTC sets plus an Etype set if I can get a very generous discount. :D

You'll need one, guessing over £1k for that lot as my 6b set were £300

Thanks for that background Corky. So CSH did actually get to offering individual priced hoses! They have told me they are not set up to make bespoke sets because "we are a micro company and therefore, can only develop hoses sets for straight forward factory models."

So this brings me back to my original question, how much common ground is there between the MB hose set and the SE6B? Surely in going from the 2.8 to the 2.9 Ford didn't make any radical changes to layout, did they? Which makes me think that the only 'new' hoses required for the MB would be the main top and bottom radiator hoses.

By the same token, would MB have designed their own unique hoses for this, or would they have dipped into the "midlands parts bin" and used hoses from some other engine/car, maybe even from the Granada itself?

They’re just about the only unique hoses on any Scimitar :D

Steve
Does your 2011 silicon background information mean that 404 has some silicon hoses fitted in your ownership and as you mentioned earlier Martin fitted the rest. Haven’t seen any invoices amongst the pile so far but will dig a little deeper tonight.
However, all the hoses do look like silicon.
Mike
Yes I realise that’s £1000 worth of silicon hoses. That’s why I mentioned a VERY generous discount. We’ll see what happens when I make the phone call. Though I’m not expecting any discount after reading Steve’s endeavours.

I don't know what E-type hoses you're looking for but these seem a little more modestly priced: http://www.actproducts.co.uk/product-ca ... hose-kits/

Thank you Chris
It’s a series 2 4.2 2+2 that I’ve owned since 1989 when the prices just started to rise. However, a mere pittance compared to today’s figures.
The company you mentioned don’t list my model but classic do and their price is around £160 so nearly half the price of my cologne.
Cheers
Ron
