I got lots of the cork type Peter.
Last time I saw the rubber ones for Essex they were 5 times the price of cork so I never bothered stocking them.

Have you got original pressed steel covers or alloy, the alloy can be a pig to seal with the rubber type.

There are also different thicknesses of cork for sale, if you use the thickest type they are prone to splitting at the screw holes.

Planning to get the alloy covers that's why I will need to get new gaskets - will get in touch with you ( again ) when the covers are ready.

What is the latest position on the cork gaskets ? (as I am about to get around at long last to fitting my alloy covers too). What are the reasons for the different thicknesses of cork? And is there any recommended sealant to use with them, or just fit the cork dry?

Thanks

Clean flat surfaces, personality I seal to the head to ease future box removal. Key is to not over tighten

If fitting to Ally covers check if they have the recesses machined to retain the gaskets, if they just flat surfaces then I glue the thinnest gaskets to the covers and then don`t go mad with the M6 bolts.
Trying to glue a gasket in the correct place on a Cologne head is difficult, just easier to clean the cover and either use impact adhesive with a thin brush, or spray glue and let it set before fitting.

I used 'ThreeBond 1104Neo Plus' without gasket when I fitted alloy covers. So far so good!
What's to lose by trying?
