which engine oil and filter for 2.9?

Post by simmit » Sun Jun 05, 2016 9:28 am

I've heard the Ford oil filter usually fitted to the 2.9 engine wont fit in the MB chassis so which alternative Ford filter does fit? Alternatively, suggestions for good quality other makes will be welcomed.

Whilst we are at it which grade of oil, 10W-30 or 20W-50? I'm conscious the 2.9 engine runs low oil pressure and don't want to make matters worse.

15/40 is the oil recomended and you are correct thinking the "normal" filter does not fit - because it is too long and the chassis gets in the way. I wil not be at back home until tomorroe night where I have a list of filters which do fit and I will post them if no one else come in with a answer for you - I am currently using Mann filters for all of our cars. It is pointless asking car shops for filters as they don't have the MB in their lists of cars.

Parts shops have the short filter listed as 2wd Sierra cosworth. 10 or 15w40 will be fine

Thanks Peter. It would be nice to see a list of alternative filters if you can manage it. Mann seem to get the OK from you guys so I'll go with that for now.

Googled F321 OCD, no joy. Tried eurocarparts ("Euros"?) no joy.

One last question (hopefully). Which engine oil, mineral, semi-synthetic or full synthetic? I'm obviously looking in the wrong places for information and anyway oils have moved on since 1990.

I should have been clearer, F321 OCD is a reg for a 2wd cossie. Use that reg at a motor factors and you will get the correct filter.. Put that reg in euro car parts website brings up the Mann filter
