Interior lighting 6 series on

Post by AJL Electronics » Thu Mar 03, 2016 10:28 am

I am working on a Middlebridge at the moment with no interior lighting. Initial testing shows that there is no earth switching going on from the door contacts. Further investigation reveals that ALL of the bulbs have been removed from puddle lights et al, which is suggesting that someone has had a "staying on" problem in the past..

On the 6 series, we have a delay module in the roof and I am pretty sure that the door contacts arrive there in the loom, before connecting into the lights circuit. The loom is likely to be the same in the Middlebridge I assume? Does the Middlebridge have a delay module, as I haven't opened the roof up yet?

Well it seems that there is no delay module. At least I have yet to find one. Loom for the interior lighting appears to come from the driver's side rather than the 6A standard passenger side by the fusebox. We have no 12V on the purple at the lamp so further dismantling is going on to trace it.

An alarm installation has been done very poorly, not even Scotchloks, but twisted wires and tape. I am anticipating that to be a region of interest.

So far in my fault finding, I have found an earth off. I didn't know it was an earth, you know, being red and all. ;-)

The MB wiring is to a great extent unknown but there is a dimmer - I have no idea where it is situated. Anyway I hope this part of the drawing will shed some light ( excuse the pun ) on it for you.

Dimmer unit located behind driver's kick panel. Proven faulty so has been replaced with a relay for now. There appears to be a dead short from the passenger side courtesy circuit and an intermittent OC on the purple feed. Looks like some loom damage somewhere, so I have run a new pair to replace them. So far driver's puddle and courtesy light working again, just the passenger side to sort now.
