Nikon Film SLR Wanted

Post by ScimmyMike » Fri Aug 21, 2015 4:11 pm

My youngest is about to start her photography degree and one of the things she is required to take with her is a good old 35mm film SLR, now I disposed of mine quite some time ago for peanuts, bugger, would anyone out there have a Nikon that they would be prepared to part with for sensible costs before I delve into the deep dark world of ebay, really needs Nikon F3 to F5 model or FG, FG20, FE or FE10 says the piece of paper in front of me currently, off to Manchester to look round a 2nd hand camera place but would make sense to relieve someone on here of that bit of unused equipment so they can go buy shiny scimmy parts.

Mods, if considered in wron section please relocate, ta

Hi Mike,
a great starter would be a Nikon FM2n, I still have mine from stone age days! Bombproof camera that has a manual shutter,so no problems. The range of Nikkor AI lenses thatfir it are beautiful bits of kit,all manual and you can fit them to the current crop of Nikon Full frame DSLRS! I realize pennies probably need to be watched but I have always used this company for years and years. They keep perfect s/h stock that they garauntee.Greta service, not the cheapest but the best I have ever come across. If you like photography and are in London, its worth a trip to the shop, amazing place.Have a look at the stock list, not many companies deal in brand new manual focus leneses these days!I can hear the Canon users out there, just as good as Nikon but I have always had Nikon. The old stuff is wonderful engineering. If I can help, just send me a p.m.
Cheers.Pete.

This looks nice and I have bought Nikon gear from here before(Rob is a top guy and will be happy to advise)...

I bought one of these from Rob,fabulous lens..............http://www.djcphoto.com/index.php/nikkor-105mm-f2-5/

That is enough for now! once you get into old Nikkor manual lense, get some good ones and a lot of the modern stuff seems ...cheap. A couple of tips:
If looking at an old manual lens to buy,get a good torch and shine it down on the iris blades at full aperture, open and close them and look for any dark tell tale marks where the blades rub over one another...thats oil seeping from the mechanism..avoid!
Also look for any fungus (looks like tiny spiders) on the lens elements,it means the lens has been kept in a damp atmosphere, avoid those if you can.
Should you go down the road of Classic Nikon cameras.....this website will keep you happy for HOURS :D :D :D ...http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/ha ... /index.htm
LASTLY :D :D Look at these thousands of snaps :D .....all manual :D ...https://www.flickr.com/search/?text=nikon%20fm2n

I have a Canon A1 if Nikon is not mandatory
Also a motor drive and a couple of additional lenses.
I also have a battered Miranda F (real one before Dixons bought them out) It was raved about in A.P. when it was announced. Worked when last used

Thanks for the advice / offers, the uni specifically stated certain models as they support them with lenses and accessories. We managed to bag an F4 at a 2nd hand place in Manchester today (amazing place, must remember NOT to go back lest temptation get the better of me, kid in a sweet shop sprang to mind when I was in there  ) much to both my and daughters relief, also forget how bloomin heavy clunky and slow F4's were, my D3100 makes it seem archaic, though I don't doubt the F4 will turn out fantastic photo's, at least it will have a value and be a sought after camera should she decide at the end of the course to sell on to another uni student
