I see that sadly another of the all time greats of motor racing is no longer with us. Dan Gurney has died, aged 86. He was one of the greats, not just as a driver, but also as a team owner and an engineer (his name will live on in the "Gurney Flap").

Not many of the old "stars" left now.

we have had a tribute letter for Dan gurney sent to us written by Bob Bondurant, his co driver and friend, very nicely done.

yes Roger, the famous gurney tab [rear spoiler] and don't forget the gurney bubble. the story I know. he is too tall to fit into a GT40 so Dan gurney cut a hole in the roof of the door so his helmet could fit through the hole in the door, later someone fibre glassed the hole into a bump known as the gurney bubble.
a true hero of his era

Yes, a rarity, an international american driver ;-) and rather a good one.
Also as mentioned important in the sport in other ways.

I have just been reading more on this gent and to my surprise I see Bondurant and gurney get the credit for introducing spraying champagne for wining a race, how's that for a little bit useless but interesting info
