Keith Emerson...

Post by Scimher » Tue Mar 15, 2016 3:35 am

...Gone far too early & a death that does not seem to have garnered the publicity that many others have - why? Goodness only knows: the man was a musical colossus!
If you want to see a different side to him, go to YouTube & key in 'Keith Emerson - His Finest Hour'.......it's a lovely short film, with his music as the soundtrack, when he went up in a dual-seat Spitfire as part of the 75th commemoration of 'The Longest Day' last August...(He was also a qualified pilot...)
...Thoughts/prayers & condolences to his family/friends/colleagues...RIP...
...(PS. If someone could, perhaps, be kind enough to post the link... )

Another Yorkshireman, I saw him many years ago at the Candlelight in Scarborough where he comprehensively destroyed his keyboard.
Far too serious, killing yourself because you doubt your ability to create music - at 72 years old.
Even so, Nice one Keith (sorry but someone had to say it)

...He was an SE5a owner, I believe, Erik - thanks for mentioning that....something I should have remembered to put in the post...
Thanks very much for posting the link, Chris...I'd still harboured hopes about catching him live somewhere...Yes, a fellow Yorkshireman, being born in Todmorden...(The late, great John Barry being another...)
According to what Greg Lake said, he'd battled depression for a lot of years. According to his other-half, he was anxious about his potential performance on an upcoming tour due to a long-standing nerve problem in his right hand...

Hadn't seen or heard of this, a sad loss!

My father will be most upset, he's a proper prog rock fan, and always rambled on about ELP and Emmerson's playing in particular.

I'll put Brain Salad Surgery on the record player later and give it a commemorative spin.

May Keith Emmerson Rest in Peace.
