Why buy a car for the trip - why not use a Scim. Been down that way a number of times in a 6A, GTC, SS1 ( various ) Sabre and last time in our MB. In all of our trips only had one problem when the 6As alternator would not produce full power so could not drive it in the dark and when the rad fan came on the voltage dropped down too far. Going downhill through the Alps was interesting with brake fade but vented discs cured that for the last few trips.

wow..thats some mileage !
This was my first ever trip from the UK to the EU ...so was a bit cautious..
I sent the family on the plane, so my brother and i decided to try the road trip ( as a joke initially as we had a wedding to attend in Tuscany)- but we had lots of room for luggage etc, my SS1 - reliable but lack of space..my other cars are not road worthy ...getting there though.
Next plan is a trip to Ireland in the TR ( again ..almost ready for a MOT) this sept, and take the Ti to the ring...
The 'Merc' will be put up for sale after i have serviced it soon.

Got back from Europe on Friday - 1500 miles in scrapyard save cars - I had a £500 Mercedes E300TD estate with Richie and DJ/Andy had a £260 Alfa 147.

Spa Classisc, Nurburgring (including a lap where the engine soundproofing caught fire and I lost all brakes), Reims, Paris and Dunkirk (with a few memorials and graveyards visited too) - back in time for Prescott today - I’m knackered!

Absolutely - I think it was €25 - it was a few Deutschmarks last time I went :D

Make sure your car is tip top or take out insurance for a few more euros though, recovery is expensive and Armco repairs are eye wateringly expensive!
