Also worth looking at how you are going to pay for it. Some manufacturers offer some great deals, either silly low finance, or servicing for life of vehicle or maybe better business deals vs personal deals.
When we buy our own company vehicles (not staff vehicles) I just look at best deal. If there's a business deal then stick the firm's name on the v5, and if personal stick yours. My Bro's last XC90 Volvo gained him a 7 grand 'incentive ' from Volvo as they were chasing the fleet buyer that quarter rather than the personal buyer (or tother way around, can't remember! Just remember the £7k ;-) )

They’ve upped the commercial tax a bit (3200 or so BIK) but as far as I can tell, it’s not changing before 2020/21. The load capacity has to be 1000kg or greater - some are right on the edge, though! I suppose my M6Toll costs will rise, but they pay for the company vans no problem.

Company doesn’t appear to have any plans to do a “cash for car” scheme as far as I can tell. They used to buy them, but now lease everything.

I specifically want an Auto which narrows the field a bit. I did look at the L200 as i think it’s the smallest of the lot but if it’s too big to fit in a normal parking space either..

Might even wait for the V6 Merc X-class...

Once you know what you are after, see if a local dealer has a VIP event on soon. Effectively these are a NETT price event where all the incentives and discounts you have to haggle for for weeks when buying from a dealership are just offered. No haggling, no bartering, just a NETT price but you generally only have a day or two in a 2-3mobth window to order

The new Merc isn't a Merc though, its a collabortiave effort and it's.aiming at being a fancy Amarok imho. Just think they are too big for town driving and as a 'normal ' car. Alternatively move to the US and get a Raptor

Alas when they went lease, they decided to use a third party leasing “agent” (so they pick from the big boys or direct, depending on who’s doing the best deal) so my only part of the decision process is which car I want and where it gets serviced now. When we bought them, I could negotiate my own deal and send the company secretary to them with the cheque book. Easy!

I know the Merc is a rebadge job - but it’s another one that comes with a V6...and a Merc price tag  Not sure they’ll wear that although they do like us to have “nice” cars (most guys on my grade are piloting a Jag XE) so the chances of getting a SsangYong are low. Nissan or VW I stand a chance with.

What you said above t it being fun, Craig, sits well. I keep finding the normal euro box a bit boring at times. Useful at 3am when I get a callout but means you struggle to stay alert on a 3-400 mile round trip for a meeting.

Either you and Paul are tight-wads or I really am missing something...

Believe depending on weight some are classed as commercial vehicles for speed limits i.e. 50 on Normal roads, 60 on dual carriageway

Cannily they’ve found the sweet spot of a ton payload but under 3500kg GVW, so LCV and hence you can still do “car” speed limits.

Think it also has something todo with the double cab pickups being classed as dual purpose vehicles.
The is an ad for the merc x class running on faceache at the moment and someone asked what it's permitted speeds were on uk roads. Merc reply was that it will comfortably exceed the current limits 😆

When in 2wd they can be tail slid out of islands quite happily and can be driven quite hard when you're used to them 😁

Diesel and 4wd if that counts Phil? Starting to free off now, so fuel mileage is plummeting

Just a thought Phil, sure I heard there was gonna be a 'commercial ' vesrion of the new discovery if your firm likes premium vehicles. Supposedly devoid of most of the Chelsea tractor poncey trim bits, and with panelled rear side windows so not a car anymore. JLR did one for the early disco which appealed to businesses as it ticked more boxes. Worth a call to the local dealer?
