Aye, I've seen it too and it is very nice. I think the guy bought it new too?

I reset the carbs and synchronised them but it still fluctuates on idle so I'll have to take them off and have a proper look once the car's off the road.
I changed the perished exhaust mount on Friday which eliminated the rattle

Then drove it to Coningsby and back where it was pretty faultless except for being very hot in the cabin.

This evening, I replaced the broken temperature sender and started to clean everything properly. All the chrome work was laquered years ago which has gone all cloudy so I'm slowly scraping it off with a plastic ruler. It takes a long time but makes a big difference

I removed the grilles to clean behind them and was greeted with this. I don't think I've really ever seen an unrestored 70s steel car so rust free

I love this car Josh, you couldn't have purchased anything much nicer in my opinion.

Having sat in the car and being chauffeured about, it really is as good as it looks in the pictures.

Nice work!

It would be even better with a 4.2 on triple SUs/Webers/Dellortos..
Until recently I had a rebuilt 4.2 under my garage bench, but I sold it for peanuts to a friend.

Completely agree and I find myself looking at 4.2s on eBay but what's the point of having a completely original, 22,000 mile from new car and then make it unoriginal with bits that have done more than 22,000 miles?

It'd be okay if it was a simple engine change, but it also requires a different cooling system and suspension components etc to complete the package.
I will however look into it more seriously when the time for a new clutch comes. A new 2.8 clutch kit is £1,152

How much???

I suspect you can find one for a lot less with some shopping around?

That's what I thought but no one does them because the 2.8s is different to everything else.

The obvious solution is to have the current one or a spare refurbished...I've just got to find one ready for if/when I need it

I'm pretty sure you'll find one at a major auto jumble (Beaulieu or NEC) for the same price as a GTE one. Is it really that much of an oddball that it can't be recreated by someone like Helix?

Yes,you really need to keep a car like that original. If you have got it for a good price perhaps the thing to do is sort it's little faults and make it as good as you can and then move it on for a profit...wheeler/ dealer style :(
Surely it's not a keeper for a young man of sporting tendencies like you!
The other approach with an XJ6 is to get a really cheap one and the bits make a brilliant replica of a D type...see the Realm Engineering site. One of the few kits you can make money from because one completed to a good standard is worth about £40k

Try precision clutches near Sherborne - if they can't supply the clutch they can rebuild an old one.

They'll be the ones I'll probably use. I've used them a few times and have been pleased.
