Tappet setting sequence

Post by Old and Slow » Wed May 02, 2018 9:17 pm

Does anyone have details on the sequence of valve opening/closing when setting the tappets on the straight six (213E engine)?
I am using the table in Pearson's and I'm not sure it is right.
I've put a bid in for a Mk 3 Workshop Manual, on Fleabay but can't wait 'till the auction ends!!

Yes, thanks, Phil.
It is the same sequence as in the Pearson's Manual, so I guess it must be OK.
I did them this afternoon, and the engine is running fine (it was before, but it will be twice as fast now! :)
I was trying to work out the best process (i.e. after 1& 3, which valves open next, and I think it is 8 & 11) so the table doesn't follow the sequence that the engine goes through as I turn the crank using a spanner on the front bolt.
Anyway, you've confirmed that everything is OK.

A simple aid to memory - the valves should add up to 13! ie: With N°1 open, adjust N°12. With N°7 open, adjust N°6. - and so on. :)
