Kop Hill Climb 2015

Post by AndyBurfield » Wed Oct 07, 2015 10:01 am

Hi,

You tube post of my Sabre 6 going up Kop Hill in September this year.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tn1QWfiXdIw

It's the second car shown in the video. This event is run every year for charity, mostly for pre-war cars and bikes to go up the hill. Worth a visit if you're in the home counties area. I also organise the clubs and display side each year. We get about 250 cars in the display area; another 400+ bikes and cars in the hill entrant area.

If anyone would like to take a pitch for next year's event (third weekend of September usually), drop me a note.

Andy

Looks good Andy - really nice to see the Sabre out and about.

How's the shake-down and the completion of the restoration going since we met at Brooklands in Jan? Pretty well I guess, judging from the video... :)

The car looks good, and a straight six always sounds special!

Tony,

Sounds like you're nominating a Sabre pitch at Kop Hill next year :) I'm sure we have enough to provide a good display, especially since John Leslie and Richard Vos live within three miles of me. However, it's towards the end of September so may coincide with the annual Sabre meet too? I hope I can make it next year if it's earlier..

Next year's Sabra Sabre meeting is scheduled for the weekend of 3/4 September, hopefully missing the Goodwwod Revival and Kop Hill. The location should be revealed soon.

Can you keep me informed, I'd like to meet up, and bring 660XYB; is it just the Sunday?

Philip,

If you are referring to Kop Hill, next year it will be on the weekend of 17/18th September 2016. I organise the Clubs and Display section for this event so will be there in any case. If there's interest from the club or enough members with Sabres or Scimitars (I have three cars myself), I will reserve a pitch for the weekend. You can either attend for one day or both. Typically fees are £30 for weekend display (the money is given to the local charities) which also includes driver and one passenger to enter the paddock and view the hillclimb.

The hillclimb event itself requires a separate entry (although it's done through the same registration process) and is very limited for spaces but if you are interested for this I also sit on the selection committee and give advice on selecting post war entries. It's biased towards pre-war cars but the cut off date is pre 1975 cars to run the hill so other cars do get in.

If you need more info on this, feel free to mail me. If you were asking about the International Sabre meet, then Tony will have the details for this event.

Regards

Andy

You may get more uptake in the car shows or competition sections?

Hi Andy,
I was thinking about Kop Hill rather than the international Sabra/Sabre meeting, and an opportunity to run the hill sounds good; 660XYB was first registered in May 1964 so meets age criteria and it has some interesting competition history to draw the crowds (along yours of course!).

Phil,

If you PM me with your contact details, I'll keep your car in mind when the committee meet to discuss car entries for next year. I'll let you know about registration for next year as well. Officially you cannot apply until April but you can set up an account and add the car's details. The more information provided on the site, the better the chance of getting an entry (pictures help too).

Separately I will post the event in the Car Shows area as suggested by Jim, which I do every year but probably not early enough for the busy calendar that is out there for classic car events.

Thanks

Andy
