What gearbox?

Post by ScimTimbo » Sun Mar 24, 2019 8:26 am

Hi what ford gearbox “type” is fitted to an se4b? It is the 2 rod type with overdrive.
Am looking for the input shaft seal and gasket, where is the best place to source these?
Bearingkits say it’s a type f but show the gasket with 3 bolt holes and ours has 4 on the carrier.
The type 5 shows as a 4 hole carrier but I thought those were the 3 rod box? Confused......

The type F is the later 3 rod. The earlier 2 rod and the 4 speed are the type 5.

I replaced them both recently when I rebuilt the engine on my Coupe. Got them from Burtons, who do some parts for the type 5. However, it's worth getting in touch with them to make sure the seal is the right size for your box. The one listed on their website for the type 5 was too small for my gearbox, so I sent them the measurements and they sent me another one, reference n° GB2E701 on their site. Could be just my car which is different, but worth checking before you order! :)

I think because there's many variants of the type 5 (the gear linkage being the obvious one, but also input and output shaft sizes) it may be confusing..
