Coupe dash speaker advice

Post by Brucky » Thu Jan 24, 2019 7:18 pm

My Coupe currently has a mono speaker fitted under the dash top. I can only hear half music as it’s mono. I haven’t pulled the modern stereo out yet and looked. Can anyone remember what the original underdash speaker size was or what can go underneath and fit in. I was considering one of the below duel speakers .

I think the oval speaker would probably be best but you may have to do some adapting of the mounting screws to mount it under the dash top .

Perfect thanks, can it be done without taking the dash out?

Quite often the dash top just lifts up.
If not it's held with a couple of wing nuts

I have two speakers fitted one either side of the centre console where your knees are - woks well - nothing fitted in the top. I have just one wing nut fitted to hold the top in place - gettatable through a hole in the glove box - covered by the lining in the glove box. The other one is a bit more difficult to get at from underneath on the drivers side which is why I have only the one.

I like that twin speaker idea though - would look original but play both parts of a stereo track.

Thanks for all your advice. I've just ordered the oval one from eBay I will take a few snaps of it going in.

There is enough room in the carpet panels on the A post by the pedals and below the glove box.
The area will also act as a sound box but you would have to make sure that water could not get to the speakers

I posted this picture of my glove box for that question but it also shows where I have fixed my pair of speakers.

They also look very neat, I might go down that route if the under dash doesn’t work out. I just picked my daughter up from her friends house and also did a few errands in the Coupe this evening. Just as pulled into my drive I suddenly realiised I hadn’t had the radio on at all, I was that busy listening to that exhaust note :D

I have to say my bit here. Originality is king. But if you must, use the outside of the footwell. There are two detachable panels that can be used. To keep the water off cut up an old ice cream tub and mount it above the speakers. Cheers Phil D.

Not the originality type myself having fitted a V8 to our 6A when we had it and have fitted EPAS to our SS1 and Sabre and have a system for our Coupe as well - the column hanging bracket may well have to be fitted in the foot well which knocks the speaker idea on its head - sorry Phil
