Again from memory (the car is in a lock-up in town) both are vertical, the key turns 180º ...

Coupe boot lock

That’s a problem . So the guy I bought it from said he filled the boot with spares and he locked it .
Does the button push in wether the lock is locked or unlocked?
I can put a key in the lock but can’t turn it but the button pushes in .
Is it possible the load has shifted in the boot and is stopping me from turning the key to unlock it ?
Going away for a few days to sprayed WD40 in the lock and will look at it at the weekend.

Again from memory
When it's locked the button does not push in
The lock is pretty well protected by a plate so parts movement should not be an issue
However the button plunger no longer actiing on the catch is the likely problem
There was a discussion about this very recently

Any wear in the plate that the plunger presses on will result in the two parts not aligning. You can drill a tiny hole in the rear panel, insert a small pin and open the boot that way if worst comes to worse. There is a photo on here somewhere showing where to drill. I obtained a NOS mechanism from a guy in Malta. IIRC it's from a MK3 Ford Zodiac but my memory may be failing me.

If the button does not push in when it’s locked then that narrows down the problem then .

Well had another look at it today and before I drilll out he lock any other thoughts on it .
1/ The button pushes in but the boot remains shut.
2/ I cannot turn the key in the barrel so if it is locked I can not unlock it , but the button pushes in so is it locked or unlocked?
3/ is it possible there is something in the boot stopping me from turning the lock with the key
4/How much explosive do I need to blow it open

Just a thought, you've just bought the car, have you ever opened the boot?
If not, are you sure it's the right key?

If the button pushes in it should already be unlocked, but you never know ...

Just realised, this is a new car for the photo register!
Matt lists it in Northern Ireland in 1974, no news since
