Mikeys / Greenys / Colin Watson v8 Coupe

Next up - the one that i've really been putting off. Electrics.

I literally cant be arsed with wiring - so i farmed this job out to Dave at Widnes Auto Electrics. As per my request, he went over the car electrically with a fine tooth comb in addition to the work that i requested him to do. He had the car for nearly a week - fixed everything that id asked and much more besides.

Replaced the the hideous choco blocks behind the dash with some modern multiplugs.
Fixed the non working front lights.
Completely rewired the whole dash
Found a current drain on the coil feed circuit (he also chased down a random misfire for me)
Replaced various bits of burned out wiring

Not cheap - knocking on 400 quid for everything - but everything within the car works and i've got much more confidence in the thing now.

I can really recommend his work if you are in the marking for a wiring job.

Meh. The thing broke down on me last week - not a happy bunny.

It turns out that the brand new Lucas Ignition module which is connected to the brand new dizzy and brand new coil threw its hand in and shat itself.

My bad - apparently they need to be mounted onto a heatsink with thermal paste compund between the two.

Replacement ordered from Powerspark - Job jobbed. Havent test drove it yet since.

Ah yes, that looks much better (and considerably more practical for going round corners  )

Thanks Dark Star!

The rear end height has been a constant irritation since I got the thing. Theres no issue with the exhausts bottoming out, or speed bumps which is a pleasant surprise.

Once its polybushed it'll be a proper sideways road weapon. I spoke to Colin a few weeks back, he gave me some pointers on the spec, so the Polybushes are on order now :-)

That's a big improvement! :D I suspect it was done more because of the "drag-racing" style that was popular at the time, rather than to gain extra ground clearance?

Yes - it had big gumball 265/70/14 ditchfinders on the back. So It needed to be that high for clearance too. Not my cup of tea at all. To be honest, I thought it might have been done to cover up an issue with running SE5 gear on a Coupe, but im pleased to report that it was just an aesthetic thing

Tonight's effort. Matching Kirkey seats to replace the MGF ones which were lovely, but too big because of the enlarged transmission tunnel. Bada Bing

It's looking great! I was a fan of it originally, but the tweaks you've been doing to it are improving it further.

Back from paint now. The cracked front end has now been repaired. The custom red paint couldnt be matched - so i went with black on the front.

I decided to upgrade to Wilwoods as the brakes on it werent up to much & were falling to pieces - it looks like the pads have been cooked at some point.

Full Wilwood kit ordered from QRG as their quality is second to none

New Coupe trackrod ends ordered as I had incorrectly ordered SE5 ones - everything else on the car is 5a

Ongoing..
