Coupe Suspension

Post by Geraint SabreGTCse5 » Wed Mar 22, 2017 9:08 pm

I have read that the suspension/front calipers from a 5 can be used on a coupe V6 any one know exactly what can be used from the 5?

I assume the coupe suspension mounts are used. what about the steering rack any modifications needed?

latest edition to the fleet doesn't have calipers and i have plenty of se5 bits knocking about.....

Steering trackrod ends are the only thing I am aware of that might be an issue if proceeding as you noted above Geraint, (think the Coupe rack is Herald derived, not sure about the SE5 though) speak to Nigel at QRG I'm sure he'll know for certain or maybe Walkers, personally I have a tad more confidence in QRG when it comes to Coupe's

Calipers will fit the uprights so long as they are not the early ones
Lower wish bone brackets are different but SE5 can be used
SE5 rack is different to a Coupe but Rimmer bros stock the correct type

thanks steve, when you say early ones do you mean early calipers or early uprights?

i can see the two racks have differences i have plenty of good 5/5a racks, the one on the coupe looks ok i will investigate the track rod ends as Mike suggests so i can keep the coupe rack.

the engine is seized, the car came with no papers, as all the numbers match the orignal id plate i am happy enough i can get it registered on its original plate. No papers means i can't see what engine it was registered as having. Are there any obvious external signs that an engine is a 2.5 v6? the engine number is very low

many engines were changed for the "3.0" i am sure but the one in this is original.

thanks

Early uprights won't accept SE5 calipers however most V6 coupes have the GTE type of suspension
The chassis number tells you the engine type originally fitted
400 =v6 3000cc
425 = v6 2500cc

maybe Dave.... need to finish the GTC first.

i like to assess what a project needs early and pick up the bits as they come up in various locations... find they are cheaper that way.

Thanks Steve .... "3.0" it is then ..... I am sure i will mither you further. Its been been a while since i have done a coupe.

Track rod end issue with mine was that I ordered herald ones, fitted the rack okay but the taper was wrong for the steering arm on the upright, ended up QRG'ing a replacement, sometimes better to spend a little more and get correct part of course
