I'm not an expert on all the gearbox types listed as fitments, however I see it lists the Type 9, which would normally take the later type mount (i.e. the one you can get), in which case I *suspect* it is probably no more likely to fit, than that one is? :(

I've asked the eBay seller for the dimensions of the V section of the Vibra mount. See what he comes back with

Do you mean within Scimitar production Jim? Or compared to other cars that use the LH overdrive? Are there other Scimitars which use the LH overdrive combined with the later type mount?

I didn't measure them when the old mount was off the car, but they both fitted the cross member ok, just not the tail of the gearbox! :(

The LH was also used in the SE5 and early 5a - I'm not aware of anyone having issues with a current spec mount on a GTE. I did start to look at what other cars used the LH unit to see what (if any) other mounts were used but got sidetracked

According to the always accurate  Wikipedia:

From 1967 the LH-type overdrive was introduced, and this featured in a variety of models, including 1968–1980 MGBs, the MGC, the Ford Zephyr, early Reliant Scimitars, TVRs, and Gilberns.

Note the smiley as it doesn't mention the J type being fitted to 73-on Scimitars...

Another curveball here - took the mount off mine earlier and it appears to be different to the one posted earlier, although it appears to have the same part number! The ends are more rounded like the common replacement and it is sided - one side is branded "front". As you can see, it's a bit worse for wear!

How do the measurements of the "V" compare Vic? If you're lucky you might be able to fit the mount which is available from QRG.

Measurements are the same as the one posted earlier, so the common mount wont fit - worth a try though! Thq quest continues, really need to find one soon as the movement is causing the steering to wobble!

Just to confirm that the parts lost shows that the GTE (SE5/5a) have one mount for all boxes (LH, J, 4 speed & BW35) part number 204524 and the SE6 on manual has another part number (but presumably the same dimensions) for the J type and C3. So it definitely appears that there were two types of LH box?

Just measured a type 9, 4 speed, C3 and J type and they're all identical and nearer to the "new" measurements (with reference to the pic on page 2). Can't get to my LH because it's fitted :-) but it has the same mount as the type 9 because I replaced it with one I bought for an SS1 last time the box was out.

Mount from J type is 22 across at base and 30 across at 25mm high - and fits the 4 speed perfectly.

I was interested to read that, because actually, at least according to my Se5a Parts List, the position may be a bit more complex than that.

(Quoting from the respective parts lists)

The V6 Coupe and the Se5 are shown as having ............... Part 204524

The Se6/6a (manual-o/d and auto) are shown as having.......Part 209509

But the Se5a parts list has a mixture of the two, as follows:

(note that the chassis numbers in the detail of the list, don't seem to cover the full range of the chassis numbers implied in the page heading.... )

Also note that of course, simply having different part numbers, doesn't necessarily mean that they are different sizes.....

Sorry its been a while in replying, well I am using my old mounting as still unable to track down the correct one. Yes I did purchase one from Walkers in Chester and was assured it was the only one, and it looks identical to the photograph above, however its bigger as the "V" section has to fit into the tail-shaft "V"alloy casting on the Laycock LH overdrive. It would appear from what little information I have found that this part is probably from a MK 4 Zodiac V6 with overdrive as its marked FoMoCo with 2RB and 6068A on the rubber, The dimension on the item supplied by Walkers and the ones on eBay are 28 mm across the top of the "V" mine is nearer to 36 mm across the top of the "V". I did see an early gearbox and overdrive for sale on eBay a few weeks ago and this had the same mounting as mine, so I have no reason to suspect its not an original factory specification. As the two parts look identical and the metal base plate is nearly identical its easy to think they are the same but they are not.
